Florida Father Arrested After 18MO Son Dies In Hot Car While He Got Haircut, Had Drinks At Bar

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Scott Allen Gardner, 33, was arrested Thursday with the help of the Ormond Beach Police Department on Thursday.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said he is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect causing great bodily harm.

Gardner is accused of leaving his 18-month-old son Sebastian “helpless” in a hot truck for more than three hours on June 6, while he got a haircut and went drinking at Hanky Panky’s Lounge.

During an investigation into what happened, deputies said Gardner gave multiple false accounts of what occurred that day.

The sheriff’s office said that medical personnel estimated that Sebastian’s body temperature reached 111 degrees while inside the vehicle.

A police officer who was called to the scene tried to revive Sebastian but was unable to do so, authorities said.

He left a small battery powered fan on the boy while he went to get a haircut and then went to the bar across the street.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood called Gardner a piece of human garbage.

He also called him a lying sack of shit about leaving the windows down while Sebastion was in the car for 2 hours and 40 minutes.

“Father of the Year. Baby’s dead, investigation is going on. What does he do? He picks up his mother, and they go back to Hanky Panky for a few more cocktails, and they’re there until almost midnight,” Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood said during a Friday press conference.

“This father is a human piece of garbage, and he’s a lying sack of s–t. My hope for him is every night when he closes his eyes and every morning when he opens his eyes, his son, Sebastian, sits there and says, ‘Dad, why did you do this to me?’” he added.

A bartender at the bar where Gardner got drinks revealed to the police that, while he was there, he went out once to check whether the bartender’s car had been hit by another car. But while checking on the car, he never took the time to check on Sebastian.
