Montana Rep. Jedediah Hinkle, who unsurprisingly, with his name, knows a thing or two about bullies.

"Students in Montana's public school system could soon use reasonable force to fight back against their bullies without repercussions thanks to a bill sponsored by state Rep. Jedediah Hinkle, R-Belgrade

HB 450, the "Protect physical self-defense in K-12 schools" bill, has been coined by some as the "Fight Back" bill, and, if it becomes law, kids and teens in The Treasure State who are being relentlessly bullied could have protections if they choose to act in self-defense.

"It's an inherent right that we all have to defend ourselves. And that should not be stripped away just because a student is in school versus outside of the school," Hinkle told Fox News Digital in an interview Sunday.""

" Stacy Roope, a Helena resident whose 16-year-old son attends an area high school, supports the bill, telling Fox News Digital her son has been relentlessly bullied since the third grade, and she believes HB 450 would be a step in the right direction.

"He [my son] tries to defend himself [against bullies], but he gets in trouble because he defends himself. He's not afraid of them. I mean, he's willing to duke it out with them. But, of course, they [the school district] don't like it when they, you know, hit back," she said Monday.

"That's kind of where this whole law stands," she added. "If they [bullies] don't like it getting hit back, then they shouldn't hit to begin with."

She said five students currently have no-contact orders with her son. She also said her son has been put on shortened school days and he has supervised lunches. "

That is a lot.

They should hand out weapons at the beginning of the school year and really make things interesting.

Not suggesting guns though that's too impersonal and too easy for even cowards to do at a distance. Make it something that you got to get up close and personal with.

well bullies at schools should be made to put on boxing gloves in a supervised ring and go one on one with their victims,, if a bully wins the victim can nominate another one of his the ones that bullied them to fight the winner until only one wins, if they refuse to win hard against one of their own then yes the victims choice of who stands in his stead no questions asked... that would for sure make them fight hard to win lol... i am sure that one on one those bullies would run away with their tails between their legs as they as a rule are cowards

But only offer free boxing lessons to those who have been bullied!

What the school is being required to do for Mrs. Roope's son, supervised lunches, enforcing the no-contact order against 5 kids for this one student? That's $$ that could be spent on boxing lessons.

Teach a kid to hide behind adults, he'll always be bullied, teach him to box and feel confident, he might not be bullied ever again.

Great idea @runninfawn !

That's a good bill. I was bullied in school. There was 5 of them. I'd single them out, even went as far as going to their houses and beating them up individually. I told the leader, each time you guys gang up on me, I'm coming for you. I put rocks in my backpack and would violently swing at them. At 15 I got a job working at a recycling center so I went on independent school study. I worked 40 hors a week, it was like getting paid to workout 8 hours a day. Last semester of my senior year I had to attend classes. I remember one of the bullies tried to push me around, I picked him up by the throat with 1 hand and slammed him into the wall. I never had another issue after that. As I've aged, I've had to deal with workplace bullies. I like to let them dig their own grave, then use their actions against them. I'm not afraid to file complaints with the labor board.

You bring up a good point- you can't very well box people you work with, it's got to be handled another way.
Either documented and sent to "HR" or a sharp wit.
The former is preferable, when it's appropriate, because the latter would probably only result in them turning their bullying on another person, and the work environment still suffers.

Don't towns have alternative high schools for wayward students? Where they could learn a trade, have some counseling?

We had one in our town and the few kids that went there just disappeared one day and we never saw them again.
We all figured they had moved to a different town. Maybe died?
We weren't "big picture" kind of thinkers there.

Sounds like an anime premise.

I have no idea why, but I laughed hysterically at this suggestion!

I’m calling bullshit on this whole Bill. Jesus fucking Christ with all this government bullshit sticking their don’t have a flying fuck what’s going on heads in schools. We have elected local school boards and superintendents that should be determining that policy.
And I’m going to go out on a limb and say I’ll all but guarantee you, that woman’s son is an asshole. If he’s on shortened days and monitored lunches-he’s the problem.

I think they ought to stop punishing both kids involved in a fight when it's obvious that one kid is defending him/herself. Because bullies take advantage of that, they don't care if they get suspended, expelled, sent to alternative school and it makes their day when the kid they are bullying gets punished too.

I understand what you’re saying, but that’s just akin to doing nothing. I don’t think there’s a simple solution, but honestly passing a SB for every situation that arises in a school seems ridiculous. Inconveniencing the parents may help. Schools can require the aggressor’s parents to attend school with student for the days they may have been suspended, or family counseling, or take them to court. I don’t think the problem should be ignored or that we should openly encourage brawling at school.

openly encourage brawling at school.

I'm not saying that either, just if you have two kids, one rarely gets into trouble, is generally well behaved, the other one is constantly flouting the rules, talking back and getting into trouble everyday. In that case, the one kid was just defending himself against someone that nobody else can handle either. That's the sort of thing that happens regularly because the bully usually doesn't pick on a kid that they know might whip their ass because they are cowards down at their core.

It's such a complicated issue, but I really think @Gone West is on to something with the idea of requiring the parents of the aggressor to attend school for a few days with them.

Then the matter will be addressed firmly at their core at home, and there's nothing more embarrassing at that age than having your parents at school.

Here are some different approaches that hold parents liable, bit I still think
@Gone West's idea is better..

"Parental Liability Laws
In recent years, there have been several attempts at the state and local levels to hold parents responsible when their child is found to be a bully, though experts on bullying say there is no evidence that such approaches are effective.

Wisconsin may be the birthplace of the idea. The town of Monona, Wis., passed one of the country’s first ordinances in 2013, followed by similar efforts in Plover, Wis., and Shawano, Wis.

In New York, the town of North Tonawanda holds parents responsible for their child’s bullying by leveling a $250 fine or up to 15 days in jail.

In New Jersey, a proposed Senate bill referred to as “Mallory’s Law"—named after 12-year-old Mallory Grossman, a victim of school and cyberbullying who committed suicide—would impose civil liability and require parents to take a training class with their child for bullying. It also calls for fines that start at $100 and could rise to $500 for multiple offenses.

Meanwhile, a state legislative proposal in Pennsylvania to fine parents upwards of $500 and require community service has not progressed more than a year after it was introduced."

I find it both sad and funny that the biggest bully created this thread.

The sad part is she used to many people on this site to achieve her goal and ultimately got her self banned and people life future as well.

And to think that ultimately is was a "Crazy" that helped get her banned.
