The father of a mentally ill man who was shot and killed by police after he charged at them with switch blade is upset.

The officers met 29-year-old Chez Frey's parents outside. When they went to look for the younger man in the home, they couldn’t find him.

Chez then showed up in the hallway clutching a box cutter.
“The father of the male immediately engaged in an altercation with his son, which then became physical,” Rivera said. “The officers gave multiple verbal commands to the male to drop the weapon as they attempted to deescalate the situation. The male did not comply with the demands to drop the weapon.

“The father disengaged from the physical altercation with his son and retreated behind the uniformed police officers,” the chief added. “At this point, the 29-year-old male, still armed with a box cutter, charged at the police officers.”

Rivera said one of the officers fired a stun gun, which failed to stop the charging man, while the second cop opened fire with his service weapon and struck him.
The officers performed CPR in the apartment, but Chez was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.

“The police and the young man were banging into the door over and over again like wrestling in front of the door in the door,” neighbor Kean Bravo said, recounting the deadly encounter. “Then the gunshot. Then [the father] started yelling loud, ‘You killed my son in front of me?’ Very loud. ‘You killed my son! You killed my son right in front of me!’ over and over.”

Not being an entirely unrealistic person, if something like this happens to my mentally ill brother, Mom and I are NOT blaming LE for the results. They deserve to defend themselves and go home at night to their families... :banghead:
Exactly! I have a son, a brother and several uncles that struggle with mental illness. If something like this were to happen it, I would apologize to LE. Regardless, it's not easy to have to shot someone. I have worked in the legal field for over 25 years. I have seen Officers resign, end up in mental hospitals, and even commit suicide over these situations. Prayers for all involved.
