A former operator of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Jumbotron was busted for having child sex abuse images, federal prosecutors said.
Samuel Arthur Thompson, a convicted sex offender who never registered in Florida, was indicted Wednesday on charges including receiving and possessing child abuse images, the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced Thursday.
The 49-year-old was indicted following a probe into several malfunctions of the team’s Jumbotron at TIAA Bank Field during the 2018 season.
As the “architect” of the team’s video board system, Thompson worked for the Jags between April 2017 and February 2018, but his contract was not renewed, federal prosecutors said.
Thompson, of St. Augustine, later used his prior expertise to remotely log into the team’s computer system and send commands to a rogue server placed inside the team’s computer room, prompting the Jumbotron outages, court documents show.
