Update.

arrested Dorothy Wing, 24, of Seaside this week on charges of murder by abuse, manslaughter and criminal mistreatment. Her live-in boyfriend, Randy Lee Roden, 26, was previously arrested on an aggravated murder charge.

The pair appeared in court Friday via video and pleaded not guilty, the Daily Astorian reported. They remain in jail without bail.

Evangelina Wing would have turned 3 in January. An autopsy showed she died of blunt-force trauma.

The indictment says Wing caused her daughter's death by neglect and maltreatment. It says she left Evangelina alone with Roden for a period of time likely to endanger the girl's health and withheld needed medical attention from Evangelina and her other two children.

Emergency crews responded five days before Christmas to a 911 call that Evangelina was not breathing, but she was dead when they arrived. Police have not said who placed the call or if a weapon was used to kill the girl.

Roden is also charged with several counts of sex abuse, unlawful sexual penetration, assault and criminal mistreatment. The indictment states Roden engaged in a "pattern and practice" of assault against Evangelina starting around Oct. 31 and injured Wing's two sons — a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old born 10 months after Evangelina.

And that pitiful failure of a mother is indeed just as bad as him. She let this turd into her child's life in the first place. Maybe she didn't do criminal checks. Maybe she saw the twat through rose-tinted glasses at first and was blinded by love. That was simply dangerously negligent and foolish.

But when he started abusing and ill-treating her own kids - including sexually - and she did nothing but protect him and cover for him whilst giving him free rein to continue, knowing what he was doing - well that makes her as evil as he is in my opinion. The first priority of any mother by far - indeed of any parent, mother or father - should be the welbeing and protection of their own kids.

If you are a mother or a father and the person you are screwing starts beating up on your kids or interfering with them in innapropriate ways, then the instant you hear of it, get them the fuck out of your kid's lives and alert the authorities.

Any supposed mother who puts her penis ahead of the welfare of her own children is an insult to all the good mothers out there who do right by their kids.

Prosecutors described Randy Lee Roden as someone with a violent history who grew frustrated watching after his girlfriend’s toddler daughter and her two sons.

The state is accusing Roden of murdering 2-year-old Evangelina Wing and abusing her brothers in the Seaside apartment he shared with their mother, Dorothy Ann Wing.

Roden’s defense lawyers, however, say the focus on Roden is a rush to judgment. The defense claims the toddler was killed by the abusive actions of her mother combined with a dangerous flesh-eating virus found on the girl.

Opening arguments began Tuesday in Clatsop County Circuit Court in the death penalty trial of Roden. The crimes are considered among the worst child-abuse cases in the county.


Gruesome evidence


Chief Deputy District Attorney Ron Brown gave a detailed description of the gruesome evidence. The three children were tortured, burned, bitten and caged in the apartment. All three children were the victims of child abuse. The older brother, now 7, is one of the most traumatized children his pediatric doctor has seen. The boy will not testify at trial due to the trauma, Brown said.

Inside the apartment, blood spatter was found in almost every corner, including on holiday decorations and the wall behind a Christmas tree. Most of the blood spatter was found in the bathroom and was 3 feet or lower on the walls.

“There was way more blood in that bathroom than there ever should have been,” Brown said.

The state’s theory is that Dorothy Wing aided and abetted Roden by allowing him to live with her children and take care of them while she worked. She was responsible for Roden’s actions, the state claims, but was not the one who murdered the toddler.

Wing, 26, pleaded guilty in January to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment. She was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison, contingent on her truthfully testifying at Roden’s trial.

Roden, 28, is already serving an eight-year prison sentence for violating probation from a previous domestic violence conviction. He violated probation by possessing marijuana, oxycodone and methadone and failing to report that he moved in with Dorothy Wing.

They are both evil. So sad to read about the 7 yr old being the most traumatized the pediatrician has ever seen. This will affect him forever. The three year old had a broken pelvis and bruises. The description of the blood spatter on Christmas ornaments and on the wall behind the tree about killed me....so flipn sad. Then it got to the bathroom blood spatter. Just too much...these kids suffered and witnessed so much. They lived tortured and terrified. I hope they both go to prison for life.

The man convicted of murdering a two-year-old girl will spend the next 35 years in prison.

Randy Lee Roden was convicted of murder by abuse by neglect and maltreatment and some assault and criminal mistreatment charges, according to his criminal defense attorney Conor Huseby. But he was acquitted of aggravated murder and some sex crimes.

Evangelina Wing died of blunt force trauma in 2014, according to Seaside police.

Roden was the live-in boyfriend of Wing's mother, Dorothy. When emergency responders arrived at Wing's home in Seaside Dec. 20, 2014, they found her 2-year-old daughter in full rigor mortis with bruises and injuries all over her body.

Dorothy Wing eventually pleaded not guilty to 8 charges: one count of murder by abuse, first-degree manslaughter, and six counts of criminal mistreatment. She is serving a 15 year prison sentence.

Roden has a long criminal history for which he spent time in prison. He's been charged previously with unlawful sexual penetration, DUII, driving while suspended and attempting to elude.
