Trump’s Lonely Last Days After Riot, Impeachment

He lost his favorite means of communication, he lost the support of 10 House Republicans, he lost several formerly loyal soldiers to resignation, even Sen. Mitch McConnell reportedly said he'd committed an impeachable offense.

But that's not the end of it. The walls have continued to close around President Donald Trump in his final days in office. On Wednesday, he was impeached for a second time. But there was an unsettling quiet on the president's favorite medium, Twitter. As the impeachment debate continued on the Hill and nearly a dozen GOP lawmakers voted in favor, Trump couldn't complain to his followers – he was banned from the social media site only days before. Instead, he released a tweet-length statement as a press release (it didn't generate much buzz).

The typically boisterous, provocative president is quiet (at least to the outside world – reports suggest he is anything but quiet inside the White House) as his tenure tailspins to a close. And he's getting lonelier by the day as people and businesses reject him.

In more than a week since the mob of Trump acolytes overtook the Capitol, members of Congress – including a growing faction within his own party – called for his resignation or signaled they'll be supporting impeachment; two of his Cabinet secretaries resigned in protest along with several other members of the White House staff; social media sites like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook removed his accounts; the PGA stripped his golf courses from hosting sanctioned tournaments; and banks and business groups took pains to put space between themselves and the president.

The most symbolic blow came Wednesday, when New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city is severing its contracts with the Trump Organization – contracts that covered four sites and brought in about $17 million to the family business.

"The city of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization," de Blasio said, underscoring the depth of abandonment from the city the president once called home.

On Wall Street, Deutsche Bank announced it would no longer conduct business with Trump or his company, other than continuing to oversee the repayments of existing loans totaling $300 million. The bank the president uses for his personal finances, New York-based Signature Bank, announced it had begun the process of closing Trump's accounts, worth $5.3 million, citing "displeasures and shock" following the riot. On Thursday, a third bank, Florida-based Professional Bank, announced that it, too, planned to cut ties with the president and his organization.

The same scenario is playing out in the Senate, where McConnell said this week that the president committed an "impeachable offense" – though the Kentucky Republican stopped short of saying whether or not he plans to vote to convict him and punted the Senate trial to after Inauguration, when, notably, he'll no longer control the floor schedule.

Meanwhile, corporate donors, including AT&T, Comcast, Cisco, Home Depot, Morgan Stanley, Verizon and others, said they plan to cut off donations to the 147 Republicans who voted – at the behest of Trump – against certifying the 2020 election results.

"The biggest mistake anybody is going to make is try and rationalize what happened last week, what the president did and what that crowd did," Kenneth Langone, the co-founder of Home Depot and a major Republican donor, told CNBC on Wednesday.

All that writing is biased as hell and stretches the facts at every opportunity. Unless I missed something, Donald Trump is not in fact impeached. The snarly House voted for it. That is all. Set me straight if otherwise.

The walls have continued to close around President Donald Trump in his final days in office

They are playing this mass collective game for every word, click, view, and moment of pushing their perspective that they can. They are wallowing in their passion for this shit.

All the NBC/CBS/ABC and such has been like this with the bias and aggression. Not surprised some companies are attacking. These are hyenas. When they see a competitor that they think is wounded, and they see nothing to stop them, they try to tear it to pieces. I believe that there must be some that will not attack him unless forced somehow, but we will see.

Okay I see what this is.

per Wikipedia:

National legislations differ regarding the definition and consequences of an impeachment.

In many countries, for example those in Latin America, "impeachment" refers to a definitive destitution; an official in these jurisdictions is therefore only considered "impeached" when they have been removed from office.

Conversely, in other jurisdictions such as the United States, "impeachment" refers to a previous step, that of the authority's indictment; a U.S. president impeached by the House of Representatives remains in power while charges are addressed by the Senate, and may be found not guilty.

So you, and they, are going wild in their panties because according to USA's usual definition, saying "impeached" applies even when the process cannot possibly complete, such as this one where the Senate will not be making it happen. They, and you, are parading it around as though it is so significant that he may as well have been convicted. There are some internationals who may even think this has happened, based upon this kind of screamy reporting. Meh.

2500: # of US soldiers in Afganistan (source)
3000: # of US soldiers in Iraq (source)
100+-? : # of US soldiers in Syria (source)
20,000 # of US soldiers moving into position at the Capital building for Biden's inauguration.

... that's so retarded...

....what would George Washington say?

(Yes I saw that they are 'National Guard'. Same purpose in this context).

Going by Wikipedia is your first mistake

Now I'm hearing 21,000 troops, and also, those troops are catching Covid from one another due to being housed together as they are. The symptomatic ones have to be pulled out and isolated. These shenanigans may have infected pretty much the entire National Guard of the states that sent their troops.

@Blizzard. "National Guard" anymore is the actual military. If you look at the forces deployed 90% of them are Guardsman.

There isn't a distinction anymore
Hmm. To my knowledge it was the states must deploy National Guard units, not the federal government? At least in an official capacity I think they are never federal, and also notable that it is only the National Guard that is allowed by law to take any actions within USA itself. Like the Marines aren't supposed to be allowed to do operations here, stuff like that.

Of course they don't have masks on.
Almost peaceful protest don’t spread COVID, heard it one thousand times on CNN, CNBC, ABC. When did that change, was it after the election and democrats no longer needed antifa and BLM massive looting, burning, Molotov cocktail throwing mostly peaceful protest? As I remember only Trump rallies spread COVID, not thousands mostly peaceful rioting and looting you can fact check that, easily enough

Naw, son. When we were protesting, we wore our masks.

read it and deny it, election over no more lies needed
 :D

Yup. And I have the pictures to prove it. Find me on FB. Brandi Starks

There's also video. How you gone tell me what happened at marches YOU weren't even at?
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti now admits protests in the city DID lead to a spike in coronavirus cases after he previously insisted there was no link
Will Protests Set Off a Second Viral Wave?
Across the country, mayors, public health experts and other officials worry that even though many protesters are wearing masks, the risk of new coronavirus cases will increase as thousands gather.

I don't know what happened in LA. I said WE wore masks. That should have alerted you that I was speaking subjectively. I haven't gotten sick though. I'm sure you CAN catch it while protesting. But masks are a counter measure to help slow the spread. No mask and you're just inviting the shit to a free for all. You're much smarter than this

I’m not arguing mask or no mask, just stating facts, the media was lying to us about the protesters not spreading covid

Not just the House : From golf pros to the Central Park Carousel, Donald Trump is rebuffed

President Donald Trump has been impeached, and not only by the House of Representatives.

The storming of the Capitol last week by a mob egged on by the president has brought a rapid judgment not only from the lawmakers whose lives were threatened on that violent day but also from other Americans who bore witness.

The nation's broader culture – from business leaders and bankers to coaches and golf pros and social media platforms – has delivered an unprecedented series of rebukes as well.

No president has ever found himself so roundly shunned and so isolated, with potential repercussions for everything from his public legacy to his earnings potential.

The social-media platforms that were crucial to his political rise and the consolidation of his core support have banned him for varying periods of time. YouTube on Wednesday barred Trump for at least a week, following in the steps of bans by Facebook and Twitter. Twitter's permanent ban silenced Trump's voice on the platform that has been his primary means of communicating with his followers and the world.

The professional arm of the sport that is the president's favored pastime pulled the prestigious PGA Championship from the Trump-owned course in Bedminster, New Jersey. Holding the 2022 tournament there "would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand," the group said. And New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in the past a Trump booster, declined to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom from him. He cited the "tragic events of last week."

Major companies in the business world in which Trump made his name are cutting off campaign funds from lawmakers who supported his challenge to accepting the certified Electoral College votes electing Joe Biden, and the National Association of Manufacturers called for his ouster. The New York Times reported that Deutsche Bank, Trump's primary lender for two decades, was no longer interested in doing business with him.

The lawyers who helped lead Trump's defense at his first impeachment trial aren't expected to be in the Senate chamber this time. White House counsel Pat Cipollone won't participate amid reports he has considered resigning, nor will constitutional attorney Jay Sekulow. Instead, Trump's defense may be led by two controversial figures, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz.

The city where Trump was born and where he has plastered his name in gold on a 5th Avenue tower has decided to terminate its contracts with the Trump Organization to operate two ice-skating rinks and a city-owned golf course in the Bronx. The course will presumably no longer be known as the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point.

Even the Central Park Carousel will now come under new management.

“The President incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, said in a statement. “The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts.”

That corporate sponsorship money buys all the creeps. We’re no longer a two party system, what we are is a corrupt corporate billionaire’s club run country. We have a lot of greedy self serving, swamp politicians and promoters lining up to line their pockets with corporate cash, while pretending to be anti monopoly, anti billionaire. They’re all kissing billionaire CEO ass, behind closed doors, for a few crumbs of power and lots of money

Social media posts, cellphone data aid law enforcement investigations into riots

Law enforcement officials seeking out participants of the riot at the Capitol last week have one big leg up: a plethora of social media posts and data of the suspects they're searching for.

Widespread posts on social media from last week's deadly riot, along with other less public-facing technology such as cellphone metadata, are aiding officials as they seek to identify members of the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6.

The Department of Justice has already charged dozens of people associated with the riots just over one week after the event took place. Law enforcement experts say that social media has not only helped track these individuals, but provided ample evidence for prosecutors to build air-tight cases.

"A treasure trove of rich evidence was created and released by the insurgents themselves," Adam Wandt, deputy chair for academic technology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told The Hill.

Social media sites were flooded with images and video clips of the mob that stormed the Capitol. On the day, Tweets and Facebook posts appeared to show rioters flagrantly breaking laws - carrying firearms into the Capitol, breaking into lawmakers' offices, and in one case stealing Speaker Nancy Pelosis's (D-Calif.) lectern.

After the second impeachment, many in Hollywood reacted on social media. "Things are looking up…" Alec Baldwin -- who won an Emmy for playing Trump on "Saturday Night Live" -- tweeted following the impeachment vote, the next day adding,

"Trump is being hung in effigy around the world and the Dow is over 31k. Ah-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..!!!"

Indeed, the US capital grounds containing a crowd of stupid little flags and other colorful little things as stand-ins for human beings, because it considers some significant percentage of its population to be potential extremist enemies of its president and therefore untrustable, is something else.
  • That or they did not want to hear the voices of angry, screaming hecklers in the crowd.
  • That or, the possible accusation of allowing continued spread of Covid.
  • That or, all of above (most likely)
The military lockdown in the Capital did show much about their state of mind. Never imagined I would see quite this in USA.
