Gainesville Police said Kenton Thompson, 31, ran from officers Monday night as they tried to make a drug-related arrest. When they caught up with the local man, he resisted, biting one of the officers in the face, police said.

“When officers caught up to Thompson, he began to physically resist and fight with them. During this struggle, Thompson bit the end of the officer’s nose, which resulted in serious injury and disfigurement to his face,” Gainesville Police said.

Police said the officer was hospitalized for treatment, but did not release the officer’s condition.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports officers were working a drug investigation at the Home Town Suites off Jesse Jewell Parkway about 10:30 p.m. He was accused of possessing methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana.

Thompson was held at Hall County Jail and charged with aggravated battery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects and felony obstruction.

Good grief! "Fightbites" are the worse in presenting infections.
That's going to require some plastic surgery, a shit ton of antibiotics to prevent severe infection, and just to be safe HIV every 6 months for a couple of years.
If that's the perp's current mugshot, he's so very lucky the officer didn't bite him back - I hated dealing with this kind of stuff when working on the Ambulance, as it usually would happen to the cops who were some of the kindest and gentle people you'd ever meet - real gentle giants who just wanted to make their cities/towns a safer place for everyone - and wouldn't dream of physically retaliating to the perpetrator(s) in any way for receiving/enduring such a painful and serious injury.
Some others I knew, would have beaten the shit out of this man just for resisting, let alone inflicting such a serious injury to either themselves, or their patrol partners.

Jesus h. Christ.!
I hope that is bruising and not necrotic tissue.

Both very bad drugs.
By the looks of the officers nose i would guess there migh be some bath salts somewhere in this story.

At the time the photo was taken, it's both initial bruising and a lot of internal blood flow/bleeding caused by the "crushing" aspect of the bite; the nose has thousands of minute/tiny blood vessels, and they're trying to release blood from the area that was crushed, but the blood has no way to escape except from the vessels directly around where the skin's been broken by the where the teeth cut the flesh in the bite.
The bruising will get much worse during the 72 hours after the injury, but necrosis can start setting in withing just hours - as most of us know, the human bite is one of the most infectious due to myriad nasty bacteria within our mouths, but the worst bacteria with regards to necrosis/gangrene is that which is on the part of the teeth closest to (and/or just above and below) the gum line.

My heart goes out to this officer, there's no telling at this point if he'll need reconstructive surgery, or just a good plastic surgeon to do tiny sutures to prevent excessive scarring, plus the fear of blood born illnesses he'll have to deal with for a year or two to know he's safe from any transmission.:(
