A woman in suburban Atlanta was in jail on Monday after she sought to purchase a baby for her 14-year-old daughter on Craigslist, Forsyth County detectives said.

Elaine Williams, 47, posted an advertisement on the online shopping site soliciting unwanted babies, and promising mothers that they could drop off the baby in a “baby box,” if they wanted to remain anonymous, police said.

She later told police that her daughter had wanted a baby and would get one with or without her help, authorities said.

Williams was arrested on Friday in Cumming, Georgia, about 30-miles north of Atlanta, and charged with "unlawful advertisement and inducement for adoption of children,” according to Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department.

Elaine Sunwoo Williams, 47, was arrested Friday in connection with an advertisement posted on the online marketplace that asked mothers to drop their unwanted babies off in a baby box, according to Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

She was charged with domestic-unlawful advertisement/inducement for adoption of children and remains at the Forsyth County Jail on a $5,610 bond.

Detectives received a tip from a resident about the suspicious Cumming-based ad on Craigslist.

In the ad, Williams reportedly promised mothers they could drop off their baby in a “baby box” at her home off Jot Em Down and Hopewell roads.

In a Dateline NBC-spinoff fashion, detectives posed as an interested buyer online and arranged to meet Williams at her house.

Williams told detectives her daughter “wanted a baby and would get one with or without her help, so she decided to help.”

Her daughter, who lives with Williams, faces the same charges as her mother but as a juvenile. She is reportedly staying with relatives, according to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Cpl. Robin Regan.

At least two other children are in the family, Regan said. They are thought to be older than the daughter involved in the incident, though exact ages were not clear.

A baby box is similar to the safe-haven, it's a hatch attached to a hospital, orphanage or a specially built shed which is heated and has an alarm that goes off when a baby is left.

A handful of countries have them Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Germany, China etc so parents can be completely anonymous.I read a story about a box in China and the officials said they promised to pick up the baby within 10 minutes.
