The discovery of a Mississippi toddler with "unexplained serious injuries" led to the arrests of a man and a woman, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's office said deputies were called to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Miss., about a 1-year-old child with "unexplained injuries." The department said the injuries were so severe that the child had to be transferred to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.
The sheriff's office arrested Uriel Cruz, 26, and Teresa Mendez, 25, and charged each of them with two counts of felony child abuse in connection to the child's injuries and were booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center.
