Did I deserve to go to jail for threatening my former bully and his family with death?

When I was 19 years old, I once threatened someone who bullied me in middle school with death, I also threatened to rape and kill his aunt, and I threatened the rest of his family too. I almost went to jail for doing this. Do you think I deserved jail for what I did?

honestly you were an adult at 19 and ask yourself if it was some 19 y.o threatened your family like you did his what would you have wanted to happen to that 19 y.o.??? if you can answer yourself honestly then you sure don't need to ask that question to strangers you know the answer...

For two 19 year-olds squaring off, posturing like "I'm'a f*ckin' kill you, man" is pretty much par for the course, and I doubt any prosecutor would bother with it absent other circumstances.

But you threatened to rape and kill his aunt? You're having me on, right? You spent, what, years obsessing about that one time you trespassed on the school playground after hours, like that was weighing on your conscience, and all the while you were just glossing over threatening to rape and kill someone's aunt?

The law unfortunately takes death threats seriously. But it depends whether you genuinely meant what you said, back then.
