Glasscock, Derek Charles Franklin Glasscock, 32, of Nevada.
He looks suitably ashamed, I think he's learned his lesson. Some community service will give him time to think about what he's done. :penguin:

Tempe, Arizona

"1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Tempe police saw two cars street racing in the area of Rural Road and Terrace Road.

It's not rural.

Screenshot_20231130_073401.jpg

"... the cars were traveling over 100 mph in a 35 mph zone. Officers tried to stop one of the cars involved, a blue Ford Mustang."

" Police did not attempt to chase the car, but moments later, officers saw a cloud of smoke rising into the air."

And probably a big ka-boom?

"Police then found the same Mustang crashed into a power pole on the east side of Rural Road just south of Broadway. Documents say Glasscock was pinned in the driver’s seat and his two passengers had been ejected.

One passenger, 32-year-old Jesse Ruiz, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, 31-year-old Maria Rangel, died later at a hospital.

(they had been dating a year, were saving money to move in together)

According to court documents, Glasscock reportedly made statements to officers that he had been drinking and should not have been driving. Police noted that he was disoriented and had trouble remembering details from the evening."

"Based on evidence at the scene, police believe Glasscock was going 153 mph at the time of the crash.

Documents indicate that after he lost control, the car went airborne, crashing into a utility pole and two palm trees. Investigators found that the Mustang was over 9 feet in the air when it hit one of the palm trees.

Police called it an “extremely violent” crash that resulted in Rangel being thrown from the car with such force, she was found 80 feet away behind a building*."

"Glasscock could not remember leaving Sun Bar, and stated the last thing he remembered was being inside his car after the crash," court documents read. "Glasscock also did not remember if anyone else was with him in the car but stated he had met with friends at Sun Bar.
"

But he remembered:
"...whiskey mixed drinks between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m."

Charged with manslaughter. Felony manslaughter. Max is 21 years in prison. Cancel your vacation plans to AZ in 2044, Glasscock will be catching up on his whiskey sours around then.

This isn't overcorrecting or driving into a ditch. Street racing. 150 mph.
We have long blocks in AZ. Street racing is a problem.

Glasscock thinks this works like forgetting to RSVP or to return a tupperware container. "Meh, I'll get it right next time, I'm sorry." followed by a charming, self-effacing rascally grin. Idiot.

*80 feet =
Five Giraffes
An 8 story building
4 Moving Trucks
8 to 10 Trampolines
20 Park Benches

The palm tree and the building slowed her down. Horrible.
RIP Maria and Jesse.

Seems every company offering cars going sub 4 seconds to 60, some sub 3 seconds.
It’s a big competition who offers the most horsepower. Think it has to do with the excessive acceleration of electric cars, every company is competing with Tesla’s ludicrous mode

The Model S can dash from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds in Ludicrous Mode. If that isn’t quite fast enough, Tesla says with Ludicrous Plus Mode, it can reach 60 mph in 2.3 seconds.

2.3 seconds? Well THAT's worth $100K! Why would I want a car that goes so fast that my head can't keep up? :banghead:

ETA: Context - I have inner ear issues, going the fast (ESPECIALLY before noon!) would have me hurling SO fast! :yuck:

Still way out of my price range. I’m more of a rally style driver; not a drag racer. Unless you’re prepared to run red lights and break all the traffic laws, that next red light will steal your thunder every time, so go ahead and speed past me and I’ll see ya at the next light. ;)

The telephone pole. The Ford Mustangs most dangerous predator. But what's to be expected the newer GTs have around 450 HP.
ford mustangs or any other car the most dangerous predator , in my opinion, it not the speed or fast acelaration but the "nut" behind the wheel.... but still wondering why street legal cars have to be able to drive this fast when there are speed limits, road conditions, wet/snow roads etc and none of them are made for that kind of speed.....

A short wheelbase, wide tires and a lot of power make anything like that a bitch to hang onto when driving stupid.

My husband has the Model S plaid, fastest acceleration on any vehicle hands down. Since it’s electric the car doesn’t rev, roar or make any noise, there’s no vibration, just a hum and the feeling like you’re being launched into space. It is utterly bizarre and unsettling.

They go sideways into poles and trees just like Mustangs do, the only difference is the driver maybe sleeping in the back while it happens

Did you say "S" and "plaid"?
