Defaced Nazi Memorial In Canada Being Investigated As ‘Hate Crime’

Not only does Canada have a monument for Nazi troops — but after it was defaced in June, police announced they would investigate the graffiti as a “hate crime.”

A memorial commemorating soldiers in the 14th SS Division in an Ontario cemetery was “defaced” with the words “Nazi war monument” in June.
The memorial is located in the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario.

The division, made up of Ukrainians who pledged allegiance to Hitler, was part of the Nazi’s Waffen SS organization which was accused of killing Polish women and children as well as Jews during the World War II.

“I am frankly dumbfounded! What could @HaltonPolice be thinking? @antihateca would be pleased to provide our wkshp on Hate & Extremism to police. This requires a retraction by police!” Bernie Farber, who chairs the Canadian AntiHate Network, tweeted this week.

Steve Elms, a spokesman for the Halton-Regional Police, cited a section of the Criminal Code that noted those communicating statements in any public place inciting hatred against any identifiable group could face imprisonment not exceeding two years and wrote in an email to the Ottawa Citizen: “This incident occurred to a monument and the graffiti appeared to target an identifiable group.”

Shockingly, the Oakville monument is not the only one honoring Ukrainians who fought with the Nazis in Canada.

A statue in Edmonton — partially funded by taxpayers – is of Roman Shukhevych, a Nazi collaborator, and there is another statue the is honoring the 14th SS Division in an Edmonton cemetery,” according to the Guardian.

It's worded as if some Canadian city or other govt entity has established a monument to honor nazis in a town square or some shit, and the Canadians had the further balls to go for a hate crime when it was defaced.

The ACTUAL story is that a cemetary for Ukrainians has a monument dedicated to a WW2 Ukrainian military unit. Someone who actually knows history wrote, "Nazi war monument" or something to that effect on it. Initial police who investigated it clearly did NOT know history and simply saw a monument for Ukrainians defaced with references to "Nazis" and assumed it was driven by baseless hatred towards Ukrainian people and/or those of Ukraniian descent.

The problem, this unit was a nazi SS unit during WW2. To be fair, historians are split on whether they committed war crimes or not, and no court has definitively said they committed atrocities. That said, they were nazis, so who gives a shit if they actually did or not(they def did btw). They're filth and every Ukrainian who isn't outraged by the monuments presence in their cemetary is a vile worthless piece of shit.

All this is irrelevant of course, because Ukrainians are essentially russians and therefore no matter what they are deserving of any and all hatred and defacement and degradation they receive. So this really should have been a non-story no matter how you approach it.

Also, it's very interesting how outraged folks are about this story, either cuz theyre stupid and dont read past the trash titles or cuz they are shocked any cemetary in a civilized Western nation would have big beautiful monuments honoring nazis. Yet, there is near zero outrage for the nazies buried at the Arlington national cemetary(yes, deceased WW2 nazi soldiers are buried on that hallowed ground). Nobody gives a shit that the war criminals who slaughtered women and children before being righteously put to the scalping knife at Little Bighorn are buried at the veterans cemetary in South Dakota. Nobody gives a shit that Confederate filth are buried at national cemetaries and honored next to those who gave their lives fighting for what the hick trash fought to destroy.

What are you referring to? The cemetary is run by a Ukrainian orthodox cathedral. I know little of Canadian separation of church and state, and Allah knows American churches make a killing exploiting the AMerican govt and in effect the tax payer, but i wouldnt think this monument was specifically funded by the Canadian govt.

Or are you referring to the investigation into this? If so, then yes, i agree. Idiotic to waste ANY police resources into it. If the ukrainians love their nazi history so much, they can wash it off themselves and fuck off about it.
