After a dead female pit bull with clipped ears and covered in wounds is found by the side of a Pa. road, some suspect a dogfighting ring.
This is primarily due to the horrifying extent of the dog’s wound and broken bones, according to animal rescue experts in Columbia County, Pa.
Here’s how Kate Magni, with the Animal Resource Center in Millville, Pa., described the dog’s horrific wounds to WNEP-TV
"I've never seen a dog with those kinds of injuries and the amount of neglect that she endured. You could tell just by looking at her it wasn't just one incident."
Mary Sult, also with the Animal Resource Center, added there are other reasons they now suspect a dogfighting ring as a likely scenario in the case, which has prompted an active investigation to identify – and possibly prosecute, the dog’s owner.
She told this to WNEP:
"We can either think it was one of two things: a dog-fighting ring by the condition of the dog -- the short-cropped ears is always a telltale sign they don't want the dogs to grab a hold of each other's ears. They want them to do more damage. Or was it just a mishap between people's pets that got out of hand?"
Animal shelter staff members told WNEP that even if the dog’s death was an accident, the owner could still face charges in the case.
It all began when a woman was out for a walk noticed a white Chevy Impala parked along a stretch of road Saturday afternoon, WNEP writes, adding: After the car was gone, she discovered the dog's body and called local police.
