Mother and Father Accused of Murdering Daughter

A young mother who stands accused of an unthinkable crime. That mother, from San Diego, Texas, was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of her 2 year old daughter. The child's father is also facing the same charge. Law officers are calling this one of the most disturbing cases of child abuse they've ever seen.

Sources have told 3 News that the little girl, identified as Davynna Sanchez had chunks of missing hair, and bruising. A neighbor says he just saw her in the family's front yard a few days ago, and that she look fine. But authorities are painting a different picture. Both her parents, Melissa Flores along with the child's biological father, David Sanchez, were arrested and questioned earlier today at the Jim Wells county sheriff's office after signs of extreme abuse.

This all happened after authorities say Flores called emergency services to tell them her daughter had fallen off the bed and wasn't breathing. Residents say the little girl's body was removed from the families home on the 400 block of North street in San Diego this morning. She was later pronounced dead at Christus Spohn in Alice. Texas rangers are now investigating along with CPS.
3 News also learned that the 2 year old may have just been returned to the custody of her mother this past summer after being placed with another family member. That part is being investigated, she was in the custody of another family not sure if it was a cps placement or volunteer placement that part is being investigated.

Authorities say the mother has other children. Those children are said to be in the custody of their own biological father. The 2 year old's parents have since been transported to the Duval county jail facing charges of capital murder. At this point, a bond has not been set.

Funeral Arrangements For San Diego Toddler

SAN DIEGO, TX - Funeral arrangements have been made for the two-year-old girl who died in what police are calling a case of child abuse and neglect.
A rosary for Davynna Sanchez will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m at the Rosas Funeral Home in Alice. Funeral services will be held the Wednesday at 10 a.m.

San Diego Couple Charged With Capital Murder For Child's Death

DUVAL COUNTY- The parents of a 2-year-old girl found dead in San Diego have been arrested and charged with capital murder.
Authorities were called out the family's home in the 400 block of W. North this morning for a report of a girl who had fallen out of bed and wasn't breathing.

Investigators and family tell us two-year-old Davynna Sanchez looked emaciated, had a few strands of hair on her head and her body was cold when they arrived.

Melissa Flores is currently pregnant and has four other children who are in the custody of their biological father.
The Duval County Sheriff's Department says Child Protective Services had custody of the two-year-old but had just returned her to the mother's care about six months ago

San Diego Toddler Laid To Rest

A the two year old girl who died in San Diego last week in what police call a case of severe child abuse.

Today, little Davynna Sanchez was laid to rest in Alice.

Police charged her parents with capital murder.
Family and close friends released balloons at the cemetery today and some wore special t-shirts in honor of a young life taken way too early.

Angelica Luera, a family friend, said, "I personally got to see her once or twice at my home and she looked really happy."
Friends say she loved to dress up and wear "bling".

She also liked to sing and dance and the little two year old girl never missed an opportunity to cuddle.

Ernestina Mungia, who helped to foster the little girl, said, "Every time someone walked up to her she would raise up her hands and she wanted to be carried."

She added, "She's going to be greatly missed and we loved her a lot and she's always going to be in our hearts, we're always going to remember her."
There's still no cause of death for Davynna.

The medical examiner says it's under investigation.
Toxicology results are expected in another three to four weeks.
And, as we mentioned, police charged Davynna's parents with capital murder.
Last Friday, Davynna's mother claimed the little girl fell off a bed and stopped breathing.
The mother 28 year old Melissa Flores and father 41 year old David Sanchez are now both charged in the girls death.

They're still in jail with bond set at $500,000 each.

Autposy Results of San Diego Toddler

SAN DIEGO - Testimony begins Monday in Duval County in the capital murder trial of David Sanchez.

He's charged with the death of his two and a half year old daughter, Davyanna Sanchez.

We obtained a copy of the autopsy reporter that confirmed she died from severe child abuse.

Davyanna's aunt, Elsa Rodriguez had this to say about the young girl back on December 17, 2010 ; "Oh my God! You couldn't believe it! She didn't even have that much hair on her head. You know like she looked bald. Only pieces of her hair on her head. And she looked white, like she had already passed away."

Her parents claimed Davyanna died because she had fallen out of her bead and stopped breathing.But what Rodriguez and investigators saw that day, seemed to contradict the parent's claim.

A copy of Davyanna's autopsy report cast doubt on that claim as well. In fact, investigators say it proves the tragic abuse that would claim the toddler's life.

The medical examiner found two and a half year old Davyanna was severely malnourished. There were scares and bruises on her neck, back, and legs. The toddler also had a cut on her lower jaw. Plus internal bleeding in her abdominal area and her brain.

The autopsy found that the trauma, combined with the malnutrition, caused her death.

One investigator with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department described it as one of the worst cases he's ever seen

Child Protective Services had taken custody of Davyanna when she was born. That's after she tested positive for drugs.

She was returned to her parents in January 2009, after they completed a court ordered program.

Both David Sanchez and Melissa Flores have pled not guilty to capital murder charges.

A Duval County mother has plead guilty to the first degree murder of her two year old daughter, Davynna Sanchez. Melissa Bueno was originally charged with capital murder for what the medical examiner caller "severe child abuse."

Bueno plead guilty to the lesser charge and was sentenced to 50 years in prison this afternoon.

The child's father, David Sanchez, who plead guilty to injury to a child in March is already serving a 45 year sentence.
