About half of the attacks are believed to have taken place in one of Zou’s high-end flats in London, while the rest are thought to have occurred in China during visits home.
Det Ch Insp Mackenzie said Zou was known to keep personal items from his victims as “trophies”, such as pieces of jewellery or clothing, so he was keen to hear from women who had met Zou and were missing personal possessions.
He went on: “Due to the nature of his offending, we believe some of the women may not even be aware that they are victims.
Zou’s electronic devices, including a mobile phone and two cameras, were seized and examined. Police discovered a cache of recordings which appeared to show a man having sex with a string of unidentified unconscious women, dating back to September 2019.
They also recovered drugs including MDMA or ecstasy, butanediol, ketamine and Xanax.
He claimed to have an interest in “time stop” pornography, in which the females are passive and unresponsive.

He insisted the women in all the films had consented to sex and he denied rape.

Yes, there are people who are into that kind of thing - both sides consent, even to drug use...which is very strange because you would think you would want to remember or even experience the sexual deed.
But I seriously doubt someone engaging in that would take trophies. And most people who do have contracts written out so everyone knows what is okay. Surprisingly, the community takes consent seriously. Sounds ironic, but trust is essential. It also usually happens with a safe partner, someone they know and continue to act with. It's so niche (the consensual way) and so very potentially dangerous.
I don't see that many women agreeing to do this with a stranger, without any physical proof of agreement. I don't see why he would need to take an item from them.
Nothing about this feels consensual.
