Meanwhile, the people of Shanghai continue to suffer with video appearing to show bags of cats left on the streets amid claims the animals are due to be culled because their owners tested positive for Covid.

China is continuing to pursue a strict 'zero-Covid' approach to the pandemic, even in the fact of the more-infectious Omicron variant, with experts warning the chaos and misery could continue for months.

That whole article is ridiculous. Start to finish. The cat killing isnt even talked about other than a quick blurb they brush over. The rest of the article is an economics report with only partially true facts.

Like this little fun fact.. even without China blocking the ports - shipments are already way behind because the majority of the worlds cargo boxes are still stuck waiting processing in American ports and have been for over 8 months. At one point there was over 500,000 shipping containers stuck in American ports. I didnt even know Texas had what is considered a major US port until they made news here for the serious cargo container hoarding they were doing.

The retailer in the article complaining that customers will have to pay 70 pounds more in the UK for an American fridge. Trust they make enough to cover that. Hes the real dick in the story for passing off those costs to the customer. About 6 months ago I bought an American fridge. What you pay $500-600 in America...cost me 1,200 euros. The over head is there and companies should be eating those costs. Its also one of the weirdest things to whine about considering the only people buying American appliance imports - are people who are well off.

The worst part of this article isnt even the cats. Its greedy rich people wanting new cars and gadgets. People so worried they cant buy a Tesla that workers, who are already known to be poor and under payed now have to live in the factory? Why not have the 3 factories in the US (that havent had any restrictions during the pandemic) cover the 1 factory in China? I know critical thinking is hard but jeebus people be stupid. When someone wanting a new car means someone has to literally live in a factory...things have gone too far.

Based upon another story I saw, I suspect that they take the owners away to a quarantine center, lying and saying that the pets will be cared for while they are gone, then they come back later to steal the pet and do something like this.

China - a country I'll never move to, I'd pick almost anywhere else, one of the big reasons being this kind of weird companion animal theft, abuse, and destruction shit. It's not the first time this kind of awfulness has come out of China.

edit: uhhh wait... also there's apparent overuse of DP... aiiiiiiite.
