Three people are dead, including a child after a shooting near Echo Highlands Park on Indian Summer Drive in Birmingham.
The victims have been identified as 5 year old Landon Brooks, his 28 year old Arkia Berry and 28 year old Eric Ashley, Jr.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said police received a call from a third party about a crash on Indian Summer Drive. When officers responded to the scene they found a man, woman, and child inside a blue sedan riddled with bullets. All three had been shot, and all three were pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
"After the shots were fired the victim drove a short distance and crashed into some decorations in a resident's yard."
Fitzgerald said some sort of "interaction" took place between the people inside the victim's vehicle and the suspect's vehicle. Detectives are still trying to find out what led up to the shooting. Police say it is crucial if someone has seen anything or has surveillance video to send it to police. Truman said there is only one way in and one way out of the area, and at this time the shooting appears to be targeted.
"They intended to shoot into that car; they killed a child. We need to get them off the street immediately," said Truman.
There is no one in custody. It is believed the suspect fled the scene in a car.
