Two parents were arrested by the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) in connection to the November 2025 death of their infant.
On Nov. 25, 2025, CCPD officers responded for a report of a nine-month-old baby girl who was not breathing. The baby was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
CCPD detectives began an investigation and found that the baby's death was caused by the effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Her parents, Heather Laborde, 36, and Paul Rapkin, 41, were arrested on May 6 by the CCPD's Criminal Investigations Division Detectives. Laborde and Rapkin were charged with second degree murder and second degree child cruelty.
