Wow. I hope they find who did this. Ex lover maybe? Although I'm sure they checked that out first. If it isn't the obvious then... It seems to personal to be random tho.
Ugh. Head scratcher for sure.

I don't understand..they found semen and the dna matched other dna in the apartment. Wouldn't somebody be able to say what guy was hanging around her apartment, like her roommate? And did they clear the roommate, because this sounds like rage and she made someone super mad. Mabe a female took down the pants to stage the scene, and the dna was from consentual sex she had earlier. Mabe she was killed befor the roommate left.

thinking it was a strangers DNA
they havent said but maybe he robbed her and his DNA is on things from moving stuff around
hopefully soon they will maybe get a match through the data base if he does something stupid like shoplifting or something mild not another murder

There's a certain element of illiteracy in this note, as there seems to be no punctuation, which could change the meaning.
If one reads in the voice of who might speak like this , it might read: "I'm not stupid, bitch. Jealous?"
It could be read as if they were signing off as 'jealous'. Or somehow using her own words back at her, maybe she said to someone, perhaps rightly so," oh you're just being stupid and jealous' , something that stuck with him either that night, days before, perhaps months before, and being sort of violent and inarticulate did what came naturally.
It reads as though she has slighted someone, made an off-hand comment or rejected a guy " I'm not wanting to date right now" or "I have a boyfriend" that has come back to haunt her. Maybe someone who was after her from afar but had only talked to her a couple times. Maybe he heard her talk about him to others or saw a social media post that disparaged him, or it turned out she really didn't have a boyfriend or was dating people.
In either case, to use 'bitch' in this type of form of speech and a kind of scolding tone, implies definite retaliation and/or betrayal. Otherwise, why would the average rapist/murderer even bother? Well, perhaps to set someone else up? But the retaliatory angle should be looked at. The fact she was killed by blunt trauma may be important as it may reflect either someone who caught her by surprise or that simply wasn't strong enough to engage in a struggle , say by stabbing or strangling. It's too bad the note was released 2 years after the fact but perhaps this will trigger someone's memories of people she was hanging out with or names she had mentioned. It would be nice if the cops would reveal more about what the DNA tells, but I bet they won't.

Retaliation for turning a guy down? Maybe some window-licker asked her out and he said "no" and he perceieved it to be because of his stupidity when maybe she simply wasn't attracted to him?

I'm thinkning like some ne'er-do-well who hangs around the college town and the college bars hitting on coeds who without fail turn him down. He thinks those rejections are because he isn't as smart as then reagrdless of the girls true motivation for saying "no". She was simply the last to turn him down and he snapped, the letter left by her ody was his "fuck you" to thise girls saying he isn't stupid or jealous.

Just a theory.

That note seems unfinished. Maybe she surprised the person leaving the note. Maybe this person rifled through her things for whatever reason, began to leave a note and she came home unexpectedly? So many questions. Where does that leave the roommate? Really curious to see how releasing this information will help the investigation.

Just to play devil's advocate, I was thinking this is not the loner obsessed stalker type because that type has no expectations of her 'loyalty' or any delusions that he is cooler than some other guy. Nor would he be, like I said I believe the note is doing- flinging words back in anger- because the obsessed stalker dude usually doesn't have that kind of close connection to her to begin with that she would tell him, "oh you're just being stupid and jealous.." Someone needs to check her texts for those words 'stupid, jealous' and see what is there, although I don't know after 2 years what can be dredged up , or if all that stuff is saved, or if he is flinging words back , if it was not in a text, but spoken.

Killer of a University of North Carolina student left note next to her body
‘I’m not stupid,’ the scribbled note read, followed by the words ‘B---h’ and ‘Jealous.’ It was left next to Faith Hedgepeth’s body, according to more than 100 pages of court documents released two years after her death that detail evidence collected from the crime scene.

I hope the killer of this beautiful girl is caught by someone recognizing certain signs this person exhibited around the time of her death and by the handwriting in this note...like the killer of the mom and two girls from Ohio on their first trip to Disneyland in Florida...they were thrown overboard alive with cement blocks around their necks. They caught the killer by his handwriting someone recognized when he wrote directions to the boat landing. They ought to blow this writing up and put it on billboards. RIP Faith. I have faith you will get justice.

From Whisper's article above...

"The day before Hedgepeth’s death, Jones reportedly asked his friends via text message and Twitter for forgiveness for what he was about to do.

In the days after her death, Jones took to Facebook with another suspicious message.

“Dear Lord, forgive me for all of my sins and (the) sins I may commit today. Protect me from the girls who don’t deserve me and the ones who wish me dead,” Jones wrote on Facebook."

So how was this guy cleared?

Maybe he was cleared by submitting his DNA? Maybe they don't have enough on him to ask for a DNA sample?

I know you are most likely right, but that all seems really fishy. Especially since he had threatened to kill her a short time before that. (That part wasn't in my quote). And I'm sure that now the case is 2 years old, he must have been cleared. Sigh. If this was a new case, my money would be on him as the murderer.

The Chapel Hill Police Department announced on Thursday that there is a suspect in custody in connection with the 2012 death of Faith Hedgepeth.

Chris Blue, Chief of Police and Executive Director for Community Safety, and Celisa Lehew, Assistant Chief of Police, announced the arrest during a news conference, saying that the department always promised they would make an arrest and they have made good on that promise.

"Nine years and nine days ago tragedy struck our community," Blue started. "Police officers responded to a heartbreaking scene. One where a promising young life had ended way too soon."

Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares, 28, of Durham, is in police custody. He would have been 19 at the time of the murder. Authorities said he was arrested with the assistance of SBI on Thursday morning and is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held on no bond. Authorities would not comment on whether he would also be charged with a sex crime, though police have said Faith was brutally beaten and raped.

"Our agency has been committed to bringing justice to Faith and her family since the day of her murder, " Blue said. "I am proud of all the people - inside our department and in the many partner agencies that assisted us - whose hard work made this result possible. While today's arrest will not bring Faith back, we are not yet done getting answers for Faith's family. Today's announcement marks the next phase of this investigation and we will, again, commit to preserving the integrity of this case with everything we've got."

Police also would not comment on Salguero-Olivares' relationship to Faith, or whether there was one. They did say that Salguero-Olivares was not considered a suspect from the very beginning of the case.

"There hasn't been a day that's gone by that I haven't thought about Faith or how to get this case to the conclusion she and her family deserve; there are many people within our department and our agency partners who feel the same way," said Lehew, who has led the investigation for six years. "While Faith's family has been waiting for this day for nine years and nine days, I am sure it is going to renew painful emotions. Our thoughts are with all of Faith's family and friends, and we will continue to support you in this difficult time.

Attorney General Josh Stein said police detectives and SBI agents conducted thousands of interviews and spent countless hours fighting for Faith. Twelve analysts worked the case and, through the years, they worked on 53 submissions of evidence and analyzed 229 different samples to rule out suspects, he said.

"Yesterday, with a sample provided by law enforcement of the suspect, the state crime lab generated a match to a DNA profile derived from the original crime scene. As a result, an arrest nearly a decade in the making has been made," he said.

He added a message: "To the murderers and rapists, no matter how long ago you committed your crime, we will never stop coming for you."

The attorney of Eriq Takoy Jones, Faith's roommate's ex-boyfriend, said the arrest on Thursday proves his client is innocent, even though "his name has been slandered" since 2012.

"Despite voluntarily providing his DNA, which did not match the DNA of the killer, CHPD has refused to acknowledge Eriq is innocent," the statement said.

On September 7, 2012, UNC student Faith Hedgepeth, 19, was found dead in her off-campus apartment.

Hedgepeth's roommate Karena Rosario came home to find Hedgepeth dead. In a 911 call, she told an operator that there was "blood everywhere."

Autopsy results concluded that Hedgepeth had been brutally beaten and raped. On the bed next to Hedgepeth's body was a handwritten note scrawled on a bag from a fast-food restaurant. Investigators said they believed the killer wrote the note.

When ABC11 reached out to police earlier this month, they said the case remained open and active. They said there was a $40,000 reward available for anyone who provided information that lead to an arrest in the case.

THE NIGHT OF THE MURDER
The evening began with Hedgepeth and Rosario at Davis Library on UNC's campus. They got home just after midnight and then went back out.

They arrived at the Wallace Parking Deck on East Rosemary Street just before 1 a.m. and walked to a bar called The Thrill -- a Chapel Hill nightspot that has since gone out of business.

Hedgepeth and Rosario left the bar together at 2:38 a.m. and drove back to the Old Durham Road apartment in Hedgepeth's white Nissan Altima. Police say Rosario left the apartment again at 4:27 a.m. She returned at approximately 11 a.m. with a friend and found Hedgepeth's body.

DNA EVIDENCE
Investigators said they collected a significant amount of DNA at the scene of the crime. With such strong DNA evidence in the case, investigators have collected samples from hundreds of men, but so far have not come up with a match.

"What we lack is that key piece of information that can help us connect the strong case with the killer," Blue said in 2014.

I always get suspicious when LE issues press releases that jerk themselves off in the best possible light.

Translation - The file was collecting dust in our 'open case' drawer while we sat on our collective asses until he got arrested for drunk driving in a neighboring county and had to submit a DNA sample.

Great 'work' there Chief.

A man accused of raping and murdering a university student is on trial 14 years after allegedly leaving a disturbing message next to his victim's naked body.
Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares, 33, appeared in court in North Carolina on Wednesday for the first day of his trial in connection to the murder and rape of UNC student Faith Hedgepeth.

Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old junior, was found naked and beaten to death by her roommate in their off-campus apartment on the morning of September 7, 2012.
Details of the violent murder shocked the normally quiet college town, including a taunting note the killer etched on a fast-food bag and left next to the young woman's body, reading: 'I'm not stupid b***h jealous.'

Investigators made no arrests for nine years until Salguero-Olivares was taken into custody on September 16, 2021.
Officials used DNA found in her rape kit, a wine bottle and the white take-out bag to identify a distant family member of Salguero-Olivares, according to ABC 11.

Investigators conducted interviews and took samples of his relative's DNA, which they said helped them identify the alleged killer.
Now, more than a decade after Hedgepeth's death, her roommate Karena Rosario took the stand, detailing the tragic morning she found her friend dead.
'I walked into the bedroom, and the comforter was off the bed,' Rosario said. 'I walked around the bed and saw hair.'

'I pulled the comforter down and saw she had a black eye. She wasn't wearing anything from the waist down. Her shirt was pulled up, and she was off the bed.'
Rosario appeared emotional while talking about her relationship with Hedgepeth.

'I felt like she was a sister to me. We pretty much shared everything at that point,' she said.

'We didn't have a lot of space, and it felt like it was just the two of us on an island. In the beginning, it felt like a never-ending sleepover. We'd stay up late and watch Disney movies.'
In 2014, police released an autopsy report that revealed chilling details of her murder.

The report showed the student had suffered extensive skull fractures and cuts to her face and head. She was also badly beaten on her arms and legs.

Hedgepeth and her roommate Karena Rosario had spent the previous evening out at a local club, returning home at around 3am.
Rosario then left their apartment at around 4.30am, the last time anyone saw Hedgepeth alive.

Police said her body was found in a pool of blood, and blood spatter was found on the wall and bedroom closet door of her apartment.

She was naked from the waist down and had her shirt pulled up over her breasts.
The autopsy determined that she had been beaten to death, dying of blunt force trauma to the head.
Salguero-Olivares' mother defended him at the time of his arrest: 'My son is not a murderer. I believe in my son. I believe it. He said he don't know the girl,' according to WRAL.

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of multiple counts in connection with the 2012 death of college student Faith Hedgepeth.

https://www.wral.com/news/local/faith-hedgepeth-trial-murder-guilty-verdict-october-2026/
According to WRAL, Hedgepeth was a biology student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2012. She was 19 years old when she was found dead in her apartment, with a fractured skull, cuts on her face and head, and other signs of beating throughout her body.

The case went unsolved for many years. In 2021, Miguel Salguero-Olivares was arrested in connection with Hedgepeth’s death. DNA from a drunk-driving arrest matched DNA collected from Hedgepeth’s room, according to WRAL. He was 19 years old when he killed her.
Prosecutors argued in court that Salguero-Olivares was a stranger who killed Hedgepeth in a fit of rage, per WRAL. His defense argued that prosecutors failed to prove their case and also questioned the investigation’s reliability.

Prosecutor Lisa Coltrain said, “He turned that beautiful woman into a corpse,” and “They still got the guy because he left his DNA like confetti all over that room,” per WRAL.

The News & Observer reports Hedgepeth’s parents, Roland and Connie Hedgepeth, forgave Salguero-Olivares. Roland Hedgepeth said, “I still pray for him that he’ll repent for what was done, [and] may God have mercy on his soul.”
