A California man confessed to a cold-case murder he claimed to have committed 25 years ago — saying his faith in God motivated him to finally confess.

Brian Keith Hawkins, 44, turned himself in at the Shasta County sheriff’s station on Tuesday — and delivered an emotional confession to local news station KRCR.

“God and Christ and these things that have happened over the course of 25 years have pushed me and pushed me to do the right thing,” Hawkins told the station on camera. “I know the wrong can’t be changed, but this is the closest I can come to doing the right thing.”

Hawkins also named 46-year-old Shanna Culver and her brother, 45-year-old Curtis Culver, as accomplices. All were arrested and charged with burglary and robbery in connection to the 1993 death of 20-year-old Frank Wesley McAlister, according to the report.

The motive was likely a robbery, Redding police investigators told the station. McAlister had recently gotten some money from a settlement, according to police. The trio lured him out to Shingletown — under the guise of selling him meth — but they robbed him instead, before Hawkins and Curtis Culver allegedly stabbed him to death. The trio left his body behind before dumping his car at a local Costco, police said.

“I’ve been through hell my whole life because of this,” Hawkins told the station through tears, saying that he even reached out to McAlister’s family last year.

“I talked to them several times and told them I was going to make it there so I could tell them what happened and I wanted their forgiveness,” he continued. “By the time I got there, his father had passed away.”

Hawkins told the station that he was blind before becoming a Christian, but is now ready admit to the crime and face whatever consequences come his way.

“I’m not running,” he said. “I just need someone that cares. I just hope the community can also forgive me.”

At least they HAVE solved the crime, finally, and the relatives can rest easier.

This is, of course, as long as this isn't a false confession...

"Hawkins pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, robbery and special allegations in November 2019... He was sentenced to 25 years to life in March."

" A brother and sister were sentenced to decades behind bars for their role in a 1993 California cold case murder that was finally solved after a third man walked into a television station in 2018 and confessed.

Curtis Dean Culver was sentenced to 35 years for voluntary manslaughter, robbery in concert and multiple assault charges. His sister, Shanna Culver, was sentenced to 20 years for the same charges, according to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.

They must serve 85 percent of their time before they are eligible for parole, according to the district attorney.

The siblings pleaded guilty in January.

“Shanna and Curtis Culver initially lied and denied any involvement," the district attorney's office said in a statement, according to Record Searchlight. "Ultimately, Curtis Culver admitted that he had a knife during the robbery and hit the victim over the head with a rock after the victim had been stabbed.”"
