Jack Snyder, an athlete, son, teammate and friend to many, was finishing out his senior year at Battle Creek Central High School, before he was shot and killed by two younger teenagers.
It was nearly 12 degrees out Friday when Snyder was driving home from his girlfriend's birthday party, according to Sergeant Jeff Case.
“At that time two teens walked by and Jack offered them a ride because of the temperatures outside," Case said.

When Snyder offered a ride to the 14-year-old and 13-year-old, the two suspects attempted a carjacking. Snyder was shot twice and died, Case said.

"I think it's very tragic on a lot of different levels. When a 17-year-old Good Samaritan's passing away is very sad," Case said.
The two boys were arrested in connection to the killing, according to police.

The 14-year-old boy is being charged as an adult, according to the Calhoun County District Court.
The 13-year-old could be charged in a blended sentencing as a juvenile and an adult, according to a hearing Tuesday. The boy was arraigned on two charges: homicide - felony murder, and carjacking.

“The 13-year-old, we expect at our prosecutor's office, to also be pushed to adult court as well," Case said.

Snyder was found face down next to his vehicle in the road Friday around 12:10 a.m.

Emergency personnel attempted to revive Snyder, but police said he died on scene.
The 14-year-old was taken into custody Sunday around 2 a.m. when police located him in a car parked in the area of Jackson Street and Bedford Road, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

The gun used in the fatal shooting was recovered, and the boy was taken to the Calhoun County Youth Center, police said.

The 13-year-old turned himself in to the Battle Creek Police Department with a parent at about 5 p.m. Sunday and is being held at the Calhoun County Youth Center, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was arraigned Friday in Calhoun County District Court, accused of shooting and killing of a 17-year-old Battle Creek Central High School student.

Justice Chimner was charged with the following:

  • Count 1 - Carjacking of 2006 Lincoln with violence
  • Count 2 - Felony firearm
  • Count 3 - Felony open murder
  • Count 4 - Felony firearm
According to his attorney, Morgan Pattan, Chimner pleaded not guilty and asked for a preliminary trial and the court to issue a cash bond.

Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert asked the court for no bond, and said Chimner has a previous history of stealing and attempting to sell a gun.

The little psycho's name is "Justice?" That just goes to show you why I refused to name my daughter anything like "Chastity", "Temperance", or "Prudence". Irony is a cruel bastard.

Good thinking.

I worked with a guy that thought naming his son after himself was a brilliant idea. That is until his son's name was in a headline in the paper.
Apparently it stunned his coworkers that he was arrested for raping a high schooler. Especially me who worked in the next cubicle.

what is a 13-14 year old kid doing with a gun and where did they get it???? maybe there might be a chance with the 13 years old cuz he must have told his parents what happened and they didn't try to cover up for him but brought him in themselves.... might have been, for that kid, just a very bad choice of friends.... but bet you the 14 year old will try to really put all the blame on the younger one.....hope the little shit that did the shooting didn't wear cloves and didn't wipe off the finger prints on it.... and yes i sure hope both are charged as adults.... adult crime adult consequences...

Can't tell that to a 13yo. Gang banging looks like fun.

This is one of the shooters? Oh… he is going to have the worst time in jail. Like, the absolute worst. And I’m not even talking rape. He’s soft, and he’s white, and he committed a bitch crime that he was immediately arrested for, PLUS he looks like a pudgy bitch. Ahahahahaha. Good.
