"The bodies of Wanda Castor, 63, and her 27-year-old daughter Kathleen were discovered after police received reports of a baby crying and possible gunshots at a home on Lake Rd. in Valley Cottage, Clarkstown police said Wednesday.

The baby, who was found unharmed and was the younger woman’s daughter, has been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, cops said.

Authorities were speaking to a person of interest in the case, but police refused to offer details about him or his relationship to the victims. No charges have been filed.

“This area in Valley Cottage is normally a very, very quiet area,” Clarkstown Police Department Chief Ray McCullagh said at a press conference. “We rarely, rarely respond to calls there. This is very out of the ordinary for that location.”"

Kathleen Castor had an order of protection out against Robert Williams III, but it didn't stop the Hillcrest resident from walking into the home she shared with her baby and mother in Valley Cottage.

He brought a .40 caliber gun with him on May 26, 2020, and shot Castor, 27, and her mother Wanda Castor, 63. He left Castor's 1-month-old daughter Anastasia alive and alone.
Williams, now 34, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced. He had been found guilty of the double homicide by a jury in April.

The sentence from Rockland County Court Judge Kevin Russo was:
  • Life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder
  • 25 years to life for two counts of second-degree murder
  • 15 years for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd
  • 2-4 years for each count of Criminal Contempt 1st.
The judge also issued an order of protection for 50 years for Anastasia, who is now 2.
