An infant is in critical condition after the father fatally jumped from a parking garage while holding him.

A woman called 911 reporting her husband was having a “psychotic breakdown” in the South Ave parking garage at approximately 11:46 p.m. Friday.

The man in his 40's went to the top floor of the parking garage with his 1-year-old child, where he ultimately jumped to his death while holding the child, according to the Rochester Police Department.

The child was rushed to URMC where he remains in critical condition.

According to the RPD, the family of three is from out of state and had just arrived in Rochester to
visit an ailing family member.

In an update late Sunday, Rochester Police said doctors believe the child did not suffer any brain damage following the incident and in the coming weeks should be able to travel to a hospital closer to home for continued treatment.
