An 18-year-old Ohio man has pleaded no contest to charges that he tried to rape his 94-year-old neighbor and beat her to death with a flashlight.

The Warren Tribune Chronicle reports Jacob LaRosa entered the plea to aggravated murder and attempted rape charges and was found guilty Tuesday in northeast Ohio's Trumbull County.

Authorities say LaRosa killed Maria Belcastro in March 2015 at her home in Niles.

LaRosa, who was 15 at the time, had just been released from a juvenile detention center. He was arrested after stumbling home covered with blood. Efforts to keep LaRosa's case in Juvenile Court were overruled.

The plea came in just before jury selection was scheduled to begin, WKBN reported.

'These jurors were no-nonsense and weren't gonna mess around,' prosecutor Chris Becker said.

Judge Wyatt McKay found LaRosa guilty of the charges including aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and attempted rape in the case.

'This was just a horrific, horrific crime scene and a horrific bludgeoning of a woman that, by all accounts, was a wonderful woman. Certainly no one, let alone Mrs. Belcastro, deserved the ending that she got to her life,' Becker said.

LaRosa's defense team's efforts to have him tried as a juvenile were unsuccessful - he will be sentenced on April 5

Belcastro's neighbors said she knew LaRosa and that she had paid him to mow her lawn in the past.

Investigators on the case said that blood was found all over the home, and that LaRosa was covered in blood when he was found at his home, according to WKBN.

I'm gonna guess he went over to rob her, thinking since she was 94, it would be easy pickings, but when he didn't find any money, or enough money, he raped and beat her to teach her a lesson about being broke when a 15yo rapey asshole wants money.

I'm sorry that he beat and raped a nice old lady to death, I hope his roommates beat and rape him, teach him a lesson about karma when you hurt old ladies.

When I lived at my old house one of our neighbours was beaten and raped by a 15 year old. She would have been in her mid 80's I would guess and completely bed ridden. The kid broke in, robbed the place and spent the whole night there pretty much torturing her. He was caught the next day when her carer called to the house. The woman died around a month later. Because of his age he is now walking the streets again, however not our streets as he has a new identity etc because the paramilitaries wanted to murder him.

At 15, I was agonizing about whether David W even knew I existed.

If he doesn’t get the death penalty, he’d better get LWOP.

Larosa’s sister said he had been released from the Juvenile Justice Center earlier in the day that Belcastro was killed.

Hours. He was free for HOURS. Before attempting to rape a 94 year old woman.

Then he was found with her blood on his hands and underwear.

It takes a sick mind to be sexually turned on, at 15, by the idea of raping (anyone, but especially) a woman of her age.

Some animals belong in cages for life. This thing is a prime example.

Any sentence that doesnt put him in a cage until the day he dies is a shocking and despicable miscarraige of "justice". This can not be denied.

Paramilitaries? You live in fucking South America or something?

You really are a fucking ballsack dude.. I know that's what your going for so just letting you know you are doing a great job.

Ah, terrorists then. Disgusting.

Ireland is trash.

you can't really talk much about terrorists when your country is full of them pal and I'm Northern Ireland. we don't have IRA here really so no.. no terrorist issues here since about 50 years ago. a wee bit of research and you might actually had some accurate info there. Shame your normally smart with your comments. an asshole but at least clever about it.

I sincerely don't follow your logic here.

I'll never understand why morons instantly fly into some jingoistic nonsense trying to compare countries and start some dopey argument regarding such things. I never said anything about America, I'm bashing Ireland. I dont see the pertinence in bashing both countries at this point in time, given the context of my commentary.

Don't post again, thanks. YOu're not good at it.

Why would anyone even think to do something like that? D= She was 94, in her golden years ffs, what did she do that this little thug decided to get his jollies by committing this sort of atrocity?

LaRosa, who was 15 at the time, had just been released from a juvenile detention center. He was arrested after stumbling home covered with blood. Efforts to keep LaRosa's case in Juvenile Court were overruled.

He'd been free for hours. If that. What, did he think 'I'll get my jollies before I get home, after all, I've been away awhile?' It has to have been a power thing, maybe the juvenile detention center made him feel as powerless as he deserved, so he thought to take it however he could?

LaRosa's defense team's efforts to have him tried as a juvenile were unsuccessful - he will be sentenced on April 5

GOOD! Die, motherfucker.

Jacob LaRosa was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the brutal 2015 murder of his 94-year-old Niles neighbor who previously had shown him nothing but kindness, according to the victim’s family.

LaRosa, 19, sat emotionless as the judge read the sentence that likely will place him in prison for the rest of his life for the beating death and attempted rape of Marie Belcastro inside her home. According to testimony during the trial, LaRosa struck Belcastro in the head several times with a mag flashlight and dragged her body to the bedroom, where he tried to rape her.

In addition to the life sentence for the murder, LaRosa also was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the aggravated burglary of Belcastro’s home, 11 years for aggravated robbery for stealing cash and alcohol from the home and eight years for attempting to rape the still alive, but badly beaten, woman.

In addition to the lengthy prison sentence, McKay said LaRosa will be labeled a Tier III sexual offender, which means, if ever released from prison, he will have to report to the county sheriff’s office of any community where he lives, works or goes to school within three days of his arrival.

In explaining his sentence, McKay outlined the court’s effort to balance LaRosa’s age and possible mental deficits to the severity of the crime committed. He said there was evidence the teen would likely commit future crimes if ever released from prison.

LaRosa, who was 15 at the time of the crime, had numerous dealings with the Trumbull County Juvenile Court and was in various drug and alcohol programs before being arrested for Belcastro’s murder.

In reviewing the teen’s history, McKay noted he was placed in special education classes as early as the first grade because he had difficulty retaining information. He was diagnosed with low-average to below-average intelligence, attention deficit disorder and was identified as bipolar with cannabis dependence.

LaRosa did not have a good relationship with his birth father and had a strained relationship with his stepfather, whom he lived with since he was 4 years old, according to his history.

His parents locked the doors within their house at night to keep LaRosa from stealing from family members.

His stepfather began sleeping with a gun under his pillow because he was concerned about the teen’s violent tendencies.

These factors could have been mitigating factors in his sentencing. However, McKay said the brutality of the crime and LaRosa’s continued substance abuse weighed against these factors.

In describing the murder scene, McKay said Belcastro was beaten so severely “…that her brain was visible through holes in her skull, and shards of her hearing aid were strewn throughout the area through which she was assaulted and dragged,” McKay said.

McKay emphasized that LaRosa was given consecutive, not concurrent, sentences, because the court found that each of the crimes were separate and distinct and should not be merged.

McKay described LaRosa showing no real remorse for the crimes, even bragging to fellow prisoners in the juvenile justice center that he wanted to “hide her body and save her for later.”
the only sentence that he could make.”

I sincerely dont understand how any of the stuff the article mentions is mitigating. That makes him sound even more dangerous and in need of a cage.

More recent update;

His scumbag attorneys are desperate to get this dangerous murderer back on the streets where he can harm others and filed an appeal saying he should have been tried as a juvenile

The govt and the objectively correct decision prevailed again
