A Tallahassee woman was arrested this morning in connection with a murder that happened 13 years ago, but she didn't go without a fight.

Deputies arrested 40 year old Kimberly Cannon and charged her in Santa Rosa County, Florida murder. Deputies from Santa Rosa contacted Leon County deputies after discovering Cannon was in the Tallahassee area. Leon and Santa Rosa County deputies staked out Cannon’s residence in the 1100 Block of Idlewild Drive overnight. Shortly before 1:00 AM this morning, Cannon arrived at the residence and was taken into custody by deputies.

In the ride over to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies say Cannon slipped off her handcuffs. When the deputy opened the cruiser door, Cannon fought with him and attempted to flee. Deputies say a struggle ensued and during the conflict, Cannon reportedly attempted to take the deputy’s gun. She was taken into custody after deputies tased her.

Cannon recently moved to Tallahassee after her release from a four year prison sentence at Gadsden County Correctional facility.

(MILTON, Fla.) May 8 -- A murder case over ten years in the making appears to be finally coming to a close. It was a case that baffled Santa Rosa County investigators for more than a decade. Now, there's new information which has been revealed and it has led to an arrest.

In 1995, 23-year-old Daren Kelley went missing. His wife, Kimberly Cannon, told family members that Daren had left her. As it turns out, however, that wasn't the case. Sheriff's deputies say they now have reason to suspect Cannon killed her husband. Thursday, a warrant was issued for Cannon's arrest.

An investigation revealed that Daren Kelley disappeared between the last weekend of May of 1995 and early June of 1995. At the time of his disappearance, he and his wife were residing in a double wide mobile home located on almost 14 acres in Santa Rosa County. They owned and operated a business called K & K Lawn, Housekeeping & Carpet Care.

Deputies say Daren Kelley entered into a relationship with Kimberly Cannon in 1994, shortly after he moved to Santa Rosa County in 1993. At that time, Cannon was still legally married to her second husband. Kimberly Cannon has been married five times and is still married to her current husband.

Kelley and Cannon were married on the 14 acres where they lived on May 21, 1995. Daren Kelley's mother traveled from Germany to attend the ceremony. On May 27, 1995 Daren Kelley and Kimberly Cannon traveled to Panama City, FL to visit his mother before she left to go back to Germany. This was the last time his mother physically saw her son alive.

During the course of the investigation over the past ten years, numerous searches were executed at the property that used to belong to the couple. During the last property search conducted January 11th, 12th & 13th, 2008, a human bone, identified as the human fibula bone, was located. The bone was sent to Baylor University for analysis due to its condition. Baylor University concluded that the bone shares the same DNA as the victim's mother and brother.

Based on those results, Sheriff's Investigators were able to establish probable cause that Cannon had killed her husband and disposed of his body on the 14 acres where they lived at the time of his death.

I found this at Friends beyond the wall..

First degree murder or 2nd degree, 20 years of I confessed, the State Attorney said. The Police and State Attorney intimidated and attempted to psychologically coerce me through lies and scare tactics into a false confession as I sit in prison, already wrongfully convicted, isolated from family, under extreme mental duress - all because my husband left me twelve years ago, turning his back on his family as well.

In the courtroom, the "murder suspect" label smeared my character for a nonexistent crime that had no relationship to my current charges and slanted the judges opinion, coercing me into a plea by the prosecutors piling on of charges that promised a much longer sentence had I gone to trial and lost.

Refusing to confess infuriated Police who then:

• Threatened to charge me with additional crime
• Vindictively cancelled my approved work release transfer and eligibility
• Slandered me to family and associates (my children's father now ignores court-ordered visitation and keeps my children from me).

The State Attorney has unlimited, unchecked power to investigate cases however he chooses. He has terrified, harassed, lied to, humiliated and punished me, leaving my life, reputation and peace of mind devastated. But since he didn't profit from my downfall, neither the Florida Bar nor the Commission on Ethics have disciplinary jurisdiction. My complaint was ignored.

I'm afraid. Soon I'll be released with probation. Will they revoke that? I'm college educated, a former teacher and business owner, but I lack resources to hire investigators or even an attorney. I spend hours on research to clear my current charges.

What can I do to stop the harassment? I'm innocent! I've heard "Public exposure is a powerful antidote to injustice".

A woman serving 15 years for the death of her husband entered a plea of guilty Friday to sending contraband eliciting help in escaping from jail.

Kimberly Mary Cannon will spend an additional 10 years in jail for sending out two packages, disguised as legal documents, out of the jail to her public defender.

The two packages of letters were considered contraband as the letter were not sent through authorized jail mail procedures.

According to Bill Eddins with the State Attorney's Office, both packages contained letters from Cannon to friends and relatives asking them assist her in escaping from jail custody during transport to the Santa Rosa County Courthouse.

Cannon was found guilty of manslaughter last year in the 1998 case of her husband, 23-year-old Darren Kelly. During her trial, attorneys revealed that she had hit Kelly in the head with a hammer and then buried his body on their shared property in Munson.

The letters were not the first time Cannon tried to avoid prosecution. She previously attempted to escape by slipping out of her handcuffs, bolting from a patrol car and violently fighting officers until she was tazed.

This incident led to the additional charges of escape, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Cannon was sentenced to five years in prison on these charges.

While Cannon was being held in the Santa Rosa County Jail and awaiting to stand trial on the homicide-willful kill charges related to Kelley’s death Cannon sent two packages of pre-addressed letters to her public defender disguised as legal mail.

The two packages of letters were considered contraband as the letter were not sent through authorized jail mail procedures.

Cannon’s public defender recognized this and sent one of the packages back to the jail and kept the other one until it was seized by Elmore’s search warrant.

Yeah, I gotta jump right on that donation thing. I REALLY want one of those crochet tweeties.

And yeah, that was sarcasm. If the woman wasn't so stupid, she'd be funny.

A paid lawyer would NEVER do that.
