According to court documents, police were called to the girl’s home on Jan. 19, 2024. The girl’s mother told police her boyfriend, Arcelio Cabrera III, 34, has sexually abused her daughter at an unknown date and time. The girl had told her that Cabrera allegedly sexually assaulted her and described what had happened to her.
The mother provided police with surveillance footage from the home, but none showed the actual sexual assaults when they occurred.

Police along with a Child, Youth and Family Services caseworker interviewed Cabrera March 18, 2024 about allegations that he had showered with the girl and touched her inappropriately. He told investigators at the time that the girl had urinated herself, picked her up and put her in the shower with him to wash her off and sent her on her way.
Cabrera was told of the other allegations against him and denied them and said it sounded like someone coached her to say them.

On March 19, 2024, the case was temporarily closed because the girl was having difficulty talking about what happened and was in therapy. In December of 2025, the girl had progressed enough in therapy to give a forensic interview that took place on Feb. 11. 2026 in which the girl told investigators about what happened.
The girl’s mother told police shortly after Cabrera was interviewed by police in 2024, he moved to Florida.
Cabrera faces several felony charges, including rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 and corruption of a minor. He also faces 4 misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of someone less than 13 and 1 misdemeanor count of corruption of a minor.
