The conviction for a Sumner County woman found guilty of killing her newborn twins has been restored by the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Lindsay Lowe was convicted of two counts of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse for killing her infant sons shortly after their birth at her parents’ home. She concealed their bodies in a laundry basket.
Nearly two years ago, Lowe was granted a new trial after her attorneys argued she didn't get a fair trial due to juror bias. A judge agreed, however, Lowe's conviction was later vacated and she was set free.

On Friday, Lowe was rearrested and booked in the Sumner County Jail.
The Court of Criminal Appeals said after the claims of juror bias were reviewed, it was determined the post-conviction court erred in finding the juror was biased.

As a result, the Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the judgment, meaning all of Lowe's convictions are reinstated and her petition for post-conviction relief is dismissed.

In March 2013, a Sumner County jury convicted Lowe, whom prosecutors said hid her pregnancy from her family and fiancé and then smothered her twin newborns shortly after giving birth to them in a toilet in 2011. Her mother discovered the body of one of the newborns in a laundry basket the next day, prosecutors said. The jury found Lowe guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse.

According to a police affidavit, the mother said she didn’t tell her family she was pregnant, but believes she got pregnant in January and never visited a doctor. Police said on Thursday they were trying to identify the father of the twins.
Police interviewed Lowe who said she went into labor on Monday evening while on the toilet at her parent’s home. She said the first baby fell into the toilet and began to cry.

“Lowe stated that the baby was crying and she did not want her parents to hear and find out about the child,” police wrote in the affidavit. “Lowe stated that she put her hand over the child’s mouth and she stated that she kept it there until the child was dead, which was a couple of minutes.”
A few minutes later, the affidavit says, she gave birth to the second child, who also fell in the toilet. She again put her hand over the baby’s mouth and held it there until the baby died, which she said took less time than the first child.

She put both babies in the laundry basket and covered them up with blankets.
Lowe said she never checked the sex of the child. Police said both boys appeared to be full term and weighing about 5 or 6 pounds.

She is currently out on bond.
