Apparently Jennifer Mehl needed booze more than her kids needed watching

DETROIT -- A 32-year-old White Lake Township mother is facing serious allegations after police said she left her three young children home alone while she went out to buy liquor.

White Lake Township police said Jennifer Mehl’s three children, ages 10, 7, and 3, were found by a neighbor wandering outside in the 300 block of Tower Street, crying for their mother.

The children told the neighbors their mother had been gone for more than an hour and they didn’t know where she was.

Mehl was arrested when she arrived at the home shortly after police were called.

“She appeared highly intoxicated,â€￾ said Lt. Ed Harris. “In questioning her, they asked her where she had gone and she indicated that she had run out of liquor and had gone for more.â€￾

Jason Turner was up north hunting when he got a call that his 3-year-old daughter was left alone.

He said he’s been with Mehl for six years and now wants custody of the girl.

“She’s had her issues in the past. I think that’s due to her bi-polar,â€￾ Turner said.

The children have been placed in the custody of relatives.

Mehl has not been arraigned on the child neglect charges yet. However, she remains in an Oakland County jail for bond violation. One of the bond conditions was that she not drink alcohol.

Local 4 has learned Mehl has a criminal history in White Lake Township. She has been charged twice with assault and has a DUI.

Apparently she doesn't have custody of the two oldest kids either:

For all you folks who really don't know the whole situation --- The 2 older kids were NOT living with her. They were visiting overnight. They weren't placed in custody with relatives, their dad has custody. She has caused a lot of inconvenience to people she is related to because of her stupidity and low-life nature.
