On Jan. 5, Angelica Crites’ daughter called 911 because her and her brother could not wake their mother, according to an arrest report from the Crestview Police Department. No other adults were in the home and the girl couldn’t get into her mother’s bedroom to wake her up.

An officer with the Police Department and firefighters from the Crestview Fire Department arrived at the home and attempted to wake Crites verbally. She was locked inside her bedroom and the door had to be pried open by first responders, the report said.

Crites didn’t wake up at first, even when the officer tried to wake her physically. She eventually woke after several minutes. She said she was tired from staying out late with friends, the report said.

There was an “overwhelming odor of ammonia and feces,” and large spider webs were along the ceilings and door frames. Food and dirt was all over the floor in the living room and dining room. A mop bucket filled with dirty water and food pieces was in the dining room, the report said.

The dining room had a large amount of trash in the corner and underneath a table to make food. The refrigerator was unsanitary with food, dirt and stains all over the inside and outside. Numerous insects were flying around the house.

The trash can was full and the pantry had cans of food with spider webs all over them, the report said. The sink was full of dirty dishes and a slight stream of water caused a puddle to form under the sink.

The floor leading to the bathroom had animal feces smeared on it. Mold and animal feces was in the corner of the hall by the bathroom door.

Crites and her children shared a bedroom, where there were a large amount of clothes in the corner, dirt on the floor and several red cups on a shelf containing an unknown black liquid and cigarette butts, the report said.

In her bathroom, there were several piles of animal feces on the floor and in the bathtub, and some smeared on the floor, the report said.

The other bedroom had a brown mattress covered in dirt and unknown stains. Random objects, dirt and animal feces covered the floor, and a litter box that had not been cleaned was on the floor. Several cats and one dog was running around and climbing on everything in the residence, the report said.

Both children’s feet were dirty and their teeth were black and gray from not being cared for. The children said a lamp had broken earlier that day and the daughter cut her foot on the glass, the report said.

The Department of Children and Families said the children couldn’t stay in the home. Crites said she knew she was aware of the condition the home was in, the report said.

Crites was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail on two counts of child neglect, both felonies. She is being held on a $4,000 bond.

Hopefully the family court did not return her children tp her unless she demonstrated better parenting care.

I always wonder how they tell the difference between animal shit and human shit.. in all these stories the toilet is overflowing and the bathtub is full.. what stops them for popping a squat anywhere among the trash and rotten food.. even camping we used trash bags and a five gallon bucket with a toilet seat on top and tie it off when you are done.. I cannot even imagine the smell or what these kids smelled like when they showed up for school..
