According to court records filed Monday in Lee County District Court, 28-year-old Mireira Johana Garcia-Lucero is charged with Attempted Murder and Torture/Willful Abuse of a Child.
Deputies say the incident happened around 1:00 a.m. on Monday November 24, 2025. In the felony complaint for attempted murder, investigators allege Garcia-Lucero held her four-month-old infant in the air and shook the baby “in a reckless manner,” placed pillows and blankets over the child “in an effort to suffocate it,” and grabbed the baby by the throat several times “in an attempt to suffocate it and inflict harm.”
A second complaint outlines the alleged torture/child abuse charge. It states Garcia-Lucero, as the child’s parent, “did torture, willfully abuse, willfully mistreat, cruelly beat, or otherwise willfully maltreat” the infant by shaking the baby, placing blankets and pillows on top of the child, and grabbing the baby by the throat.
