An Aiken woman has been charged with assault after swatting another woman’s child for misbehaving in the waiting area of a local beauty shop, authorities said.

Mary Gregory, 56, was arrested for swatting a little boy with a magazine inside the Aiken School of Cosmetology. She told police she struck the child on the buttocks for smearing an apple core on the window of the business.

The incident happened last Wednesday in the waiting room, where the child was playing while her mother was receiving cosmetology services, an Aiken report says.

“The child began crying and (his mother) left the beautician’s chair to check on her child,” a report says.

A witness told the mother that Gregory had struck the child with a magazine. Gregory confessed to swatting the child, saying she was trying to “discipline the child.”

“It takes a village to raise a child,” Gregory reportedly told the mother.

But several customers reportedly yelled at Gregory for hitting another woman’s child.

Someone called Aiken cops, and a responding officer reviewed surveillance video that showed Gregory swatting the child. The mother told police she wanted to pursue charges against the woman, and Gregory was arrested for assault & battery in the third degree.

And this is the EXACT reason I’m sooooo happy I don’t have no lil bastards.... they are annoying, want all your money and expect u to do eveeything for them fuck all that noise so happy I have no noise but me myself and I and a cute puppy that barks a bit but im so happy I never fell that low thinking having a child would keep some useless man around ! Ladies have some confidence and know that you can be happy way happier just yourself and a animal !!

I fucking love my kids! And many more reasons to have a child then to keep a man lmao. My kids are fucking awesome. And would never trade them for anything.

So, you're one of those people with a little asshole for a kid.... Seeing stars? The only STAR i see is this woman doing what the wouldn't. My kids are complemented constantly for their respect and behavior. Why? Because l wasn't a lazy, liberal parent. My son is a future robotics engineer, with ADHD. My youngest daughter is only 6. Never gets disciplined by strangers and loves puppies....

First off, majority of us single moms don't expect a baby to keep a man. You can be full fledged married and the mfka can STILL leave.

Second of all, all men are not useless. My father was a marine sergeant, and an AWESOME man all around. I'm surrounded by awesome, useful men who taught me how to be strong and independent. I can fix my OWN car ffs. And I don't mean just changing a punk ass tire. I can fight. I can fix things around the house because of the men in my life. So useless is an adjective I would NEVER use to describe men. Hell my 12 year old son is VERY useful.

Third of all, you don't have to have low confidence to have kids. I guess your mama had low confidence too, huh.

Fourth, I am SO glad you don't have kids. Less ignorance in the world. There is SOOOO much more I have to say, but I don't wanna get in trouble, so I'll end with this. Stfu and have a seat.
 
No she should not have had a child there. It's boring and you can't watch them safely.
No she should not have hit the child. You don't fucking hit other people's children even if you really think they need it.
Every second day on here, some kids best to shit by a moms bf, or dad's gf, or the babysitter or daycarer. Parents not defending their child because they also have been taught it's an adults right to physically discipline children that don't belong to them. It's not acceptable even a harmless swat with a magazine.
They are not your children and you absolutely do not have the right to hit at them. You can tell the parent they need to watch or discipline their child. Hold them responsible for their child's behaviour and care but no one should ever think it's in any way ok to hit another's child.
I can't even imagine what would go through my head if someone felt they could hit my kid and did.

But seriously, she shouldn't have hit the kid, and just informed the shop owner that they might want to clean their window and charge *that* customer a lil extra.

I want to kiss you! It takes more self confidence to raise a child than to keep chasing pants and make them wear a rubber, don’t get me started on raising a DOG.

Also, love the “it takes a village” comment by the spanker. It also takes a village to make up a firing squad, but she doesn’t seem as on board with that.

First of all I want to say that it seems most agree that a) this woman should not have smacked a strangers child no matter how much they may have deserved it b) we’ve often wanted to do the same but knew better c) situation blown out of proportion

What I would like to know is what does the mother of magazine smacked kid hope to accomplish by filing charges? Guessing it’s not a lesson in civic responsibility. One would lean toward a civil suit, and it might just be me, but I’m thinking if you’re getting your hair cut at a cosmetology school, you’re probably not flush with cash. So idk.

Just curious, how old was this child? Mother should not leave her child for strangers to watch. Lady with magazine, she could have smacked a chair instead of the child to get his attention, then asked, "Where is your mother?" I'm sure she would have come to attention, then no lawsuit. He could have slipped out the door into the street, he could have been grabbed. You just can't leave your children unattended these days! Now the kid will think he can do ANYTHING in public and mama will ok it.

I missed this the first time around. Now I'm pissed that the mother wasnt charged with neglect.
I think the beauty school needs to refuse service when mothers show up there with a child.
Every person in this story is fucked up except magazine lady.
