OMAHA, Neb. -- Douglas County authorities have charged a man with a sexual assault that left an 11-year-old girl pregnant. A.J. Kelly was picked up by the fugitive task force Thursday morning at a residence near 45th and Corby streets in Omaha.
“Kelly is charged with first-degree sexual assault on a child,” said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine. He said the girl was 11 years old when Kelly raped her and made her pregnant sometime between August and October of 2007.
The girl went to a hospital with abdominal pains in April, and doctors delivered her stillborn baby. “We did DNA tests from that birth and were able to confirm he was the father of that child,” said Kleine. “Scientific evidence led us to that child.”
Police said Kelly has a history of assault, domestic violence and false imprisonment.
Kelly’s alleged victim is now 12 years old. She and her five brothers and sisters are all in foster care.

A warrant issued for AJ Kelly's arrest says he raped the girl in August or September of last year in a north Omaha home when he was 30-years-old.
A protection order says the mother actually heard Kelly confess to having sex with her daughter. According to court documents when the mother found out about the assault on her daughter she got a protection order against Kelly in May of this year, but then the next month she filed to have the order dropped. The warrant indicates the mother told her daughter to stop accusing Kelly of sexually assaulting her because the mother still had feelings for him.
In November of last year the mother took her pregnant daughter to a clinic in Bellevue to have an abortion, but it didn't happen because the girl was too far along. Then in April of this year the 12-year old girl was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center's Emergency room. The girl gave birth to an eight month old baby, but it was stillborn. The mother told doctors to cremate the baby and they did, but they kept a sample of DNA. Officers investigating this case got a hold of the baby's DNA at the hospital and had it tested against AJ Kelly's DNA. Police say they have a match.
