One of the children injured in a mass shooting Thursday morning in Chicago's Grand Crossing neighborhood has died, authorities said.
An 8-year-old boy, identified by family as Bryson Orr, passed away from his injuries following surgery, according to family. The two other children who were injured remained in critical condition late Thursday.
Around 6:15 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert, police said. Upon arrival, officers discovered "multiple people" shot.
Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene, along with a rifle and a handgun, Jerome added.
Two females, ages 22 and 42, were pronounced dead at the scene, Jerome said. Three male children, ages 5, 7 and 8, were also struck by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Jerome added.
The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a "personal dispute," Jerome said, noting that all victims were believed to be inside the residence when the shooting occurred.
Police did not release further information about the suspects or the vehicles involved.
Bryson's mother, Nakeeshia Strong & Aunt Capri Edwards also passed away on 7-4-24.
