A father has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his 6-year-old daughter early Thursday, and then making up a story about an armed robbery, police said.

The father, identified late Thursday as Jia Pan, initially told police that he and his daughter were walking in the Lower East Side just before 12:30 a.m. when the suspect approached and robbed them, stabbing the young girl in the process.

However, after investigating the claim, police found that it was Pan who had stabbed his daughter, and the robbery story was not true. He has been charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.

Pan may have been living in a homeless shelter on the Upper West Side, police said.

After the attack, the girl was transported to Bellevue Hospital where she is in serious but stable condition, and is expected to recover.

Jia Pan stabbed his child in the stomach while the two were staying at the Volunteers for America shelter on Broadway near W. 103rd St. on the Upper West Side Wednesday night, cops said.
He said the thieves made off with his gold chain and a credit card, police said. Cops became suspicious when they found that Pan still had a large amount of cash on him and several credit cards.
