The River Oaks community is rallying the family of a six-year-old girl who was murdered this week.

Investigators said little Isabella Courtney was found severely injured at a home near Sansom Park on Wednesday. She later died at a nearby hospital.

River Oaks Police Chief Christopher Spieldenner said a boy under 17 is in custody but he can’t release more details of the case.

“This is one of the most traumatic type of calls that police officers, dispatchers and call takers can be involved in. It’s extremely emotional and not only for just the police department but for the community and this family. It’s absolutely tragic,” he said.

Police said the boy could face a homicide charge. The details surrounding the relationship between the boy and Isabella have not been released.

The community is raising money for the Courtney family to help pay for Isabella’s funeral expenses. In a GoFundMe post, organizers said the family is facing “every parents worst nightmare.”

“She has touched so many lives and will be missed. We ask everyone for thoughts and prayers as they support each other, their children and family during this loss,” said the statement.
A 12-year-old boy is facing a murder charge in the mysterious death of his 6-year-old cousin outside their home in River Oaks, Texas, this week.

Police have not disclosed the cause of death for Isabella Courtney, who sustained undisclosed injuries on Wednesday night before passing away at a local hospital. But a boy who Isabella’s parents described as like a brother to her was immediately detained at the scene.

Isabella’s parents, Steven and April Courtney, who also hold custody of the 12-year-old, told the court on Thursday that the relationship between their daughter and the 12-year-old boy was akin to that of brother and sister. Other children were reportedly present at the time of Courtney’s death, and neighbors said they saw children’s toys in the yard.

I think the child (suspect) in question might have been a fostered or adopted child.

I don't want to post any pictures but the Dad's FB has a photo of them in a pool with a lot of kids

A 15-year-old from River Oaks has been sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department for the 2021 beating death of his 6-year-old cousin, officials say.

The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorneys Office said on Aug. 18, 2021, the then 12-year-old boy, beat his 6-year-old cousin to death with a baseball bat by "smashing" her in the head.
The Tarrant County DA’s Office said during a hearing the teen admitted to killing his cousin and asked the judge to determine his sentence. The name of the teen is being withheld because he’s still a minor, officials said.

The boy will begin his sentence in a juvenile detention center and may be transferred to an adult prison beginning at age 16.

A juvenile must be at least 10 to face a criminal charge in Texas. Juveniles who are at least 14 at the time of the offense may be certified to stand trial as an adult, depending on the circumstances.
