A family of six, including four children, suffered from possible carbon monoxide poisoning when they were using a charcoal grill to keep warm, Cy-Fair Fire Department said on Monday.

The fire department said the grill may have been burning for about four hours inside an apartment. Smoked filled the apartment, Eyewitness News learned from the scene.

The family, including children ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old, were rushed to Memorial Hermann Cypress. An adult and one of the children were listed in critical condition. The rest were reportedly stable.

A young girl and an adult woman are dead after a family attempted to use their vehicle to heat their home during an extreme cold weather emergency in Texas, which has left hundreds of thousands without power.

As KHOU reports, two members of a Houston family died of carbon monoxide poisoning and two others were injured after the family run a vehicle in attached garage in attempt to warm their home during a rare cold snap in Texas.

“Mid West officers and HFD were dispatched on a welfare check. Upon making entry they found two adults and two children affected by carbon monoxide poisoning,” Houston police said in a statement obtained by KHOU. “The adult female and female child did not survive. The adult male and male child were transported.”

The police statement included a warning against using outside appliances inside the home: “Cars, grills and generators should not be used in or near a building.”

Authorities have not yet identified the victims or released the ages of the woman and child who died.

@Totemic .. we are a melting pot on the verge.. the grills come with instruction manuals in multiple languages.. unless they borrowed it or something.. last night with windchill it was -8 degrees.. we also got 8”s of snow and more tomorrow.. absolutely NOT normal for this area..
Jeez! I just got 6+/- inches, with a bunch of ice/freezing rain thrown in for funsies. It was layered, and kind of cool looking. The lowest it got with the wind chill was 16 degrees. But this is RARE for Portland. I haven't seen this much snow in 10+ years. I think my unusual storm is tracking slowly eastward. ;)

And here in Lehi, Utah we have no snow on the ground. Through the past month, we may have had about 2" total.
