Five people – three children and two adults – were injured during a stabbing incident near a school in Dublin on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

The stabbing took place near an elementary school in Parnell Square East just after 1:30 p.m., when a man allegedly attacked the adult woman first before stabbing the children.

The woman and one of the children, a 5-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries.
According to local reports, eyewitnesses said the suspect was wielding a large knife and was eventually tackled by passers-by before police arrived on the scene and arrested him.

All five victims were transported to different hospitals across Dublin, including Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin and the Mater Hospital, according to RTE, Ireland’s semi-state broadcaster.

A motive for the attack is unknown and police are understood to be ruling out terrorism.

A 50-year-old man has appeared in Dublin District Court charged with the attempted murder of three children and assault of a care worker during an incident at Parnell Square in the city last month.
Riad Bouchaker, of no fixed abode, was charged with the attempted murder of two female children and one male child.
He was also charged with the assault causing serious harm to a care worker.

He was further charged with three counts of assault causing harm as well as the possession and production of a 36cm kitchen knife.
Detective Sergeant Padraig Cleary told the court that Mr Bouchaker was arrested at 12.51pm on Thursday and provided details of the charges and cautions.

After being charged for one of the counts of attempted murder of a female child, the garda said the accused replied: “I am a sick person.”

And after being charged under caution for the possession or production of a weapon, Mr Bouchaker also said: “I am a sick person.”
The court was told he made no reply to any other charge.

Wearing a green jacket, black top, green trousers and slippers, Mr Bouchaker spoke only to the Arabic interpreter.

A five-year-old girl who was stabbed in an attack outside a school in Dublin will need to "relearn everything" due to her severe injuries, her family has said.

The family of the girl say she has entered the "third phase of her recovery" after she was stabbed along with two other children and a woman working as their carer in Parnell Square East on 23 November.

Riad Bouchaker, 50, appeared in court last month charged with the attempted murder of the three children and with assault causing serious harm to the adult carer.

The five-year-old's family have provided an update on a GoFundMe page after she spent several weeks in paediatric intensive care.

After being left in a critical condition by the stabbing, she left the unit in December and has been continuing to recover, the update said.

In their latest post, the girl's family wrote: "Our darling girl has now entered the third phase of her recovery.

"This will be the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury.

"She has done really well thus far and the medical team is very happy with her improvement.
