A 2-year-old boy who suffered second and third-degree burns to his buttocks and a broken collar bone wasn't taken to the hospital for almost a week after sustaining the injuries, according to arrest warrants. The toddler was taken to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment after arriving at Greenville Memorial Hospital on Jan. 7.
He's expected to make a full recovery following skin graft surgery, according to Lt. Alia Paramore, a spokeswoman with the Greenville Police Department.
Warrants state the 2-year-old's burns were "non-accidental."
Greenville police arrested 32-year-old Antonio Rene Bright on Jan. 11 and charged him with abuse to inflict great bodily injury on a child and unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian.
Police went to Greenville Memorial on Jan. 7 and interviewed medical staff and representatives from the state Department of Social Services concerning the child's injuries.
The warrant states Bright told officers the child had fallen into a hot bath tub after being told to take a bath “due to messing his pull up.” Bright said he pulled the boy out of the tub after hearing him scream.
The warrants state the burns and broken collar bone constitute "great bodily injury" and that Bright caused the child "unreasonable harm," by waiting five days to take him to the hospital.
