Menachem Stark
Detectives appear to be on the cusp of cracking a case that has bedevilled them for four months — the brutal murder of Brooklyn landlord Menachem Stark.

On a day of fast-moving developments, police nabbed what sources described as the “main player” behind the killing of the 39-year-old Stark and were grilling him and two of his associates,
[....]
All three were linked to the crime by evidence found in the van that police believe was used to kidnap Stark and carry him to his death,
[...]
But so far no charges had been filed against the 26-year-old Brooklyn man, not even after he “copped” to the grisly crime
[....]
“He admits they wanted to rob him,” one source said. “They weren't thinking about killing him. It looks like a straight up robbery.”
A couple of hundred dollars was found in the van, but it was not clear whether any of that money belonged to Stark
[....]
The trio knew the Hasidic businessman because they worked for a contractor he had hired,

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton did not identify the suspect, but said the pace of their investigation "has accelerated significantly.”

“We're very pleased with the direction the investigation is now going,” he said.
So is the Hasidic community, which is hoping that after months of fruitless searching there might finally be justice for the slain father of seven and his grieving family.

"Today is bittersweet," said Rabbi David Niederman, who heads the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg. "Bitter because Menachem is no longer with us and he is forever missed, sweet that the law enforcement community has made an arrest in this heinous crime."

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) chimed in with praise for the police.

"I have followed this terrible and tragic case from the beginning and applaud the NYPD for their tenacity in pursuing the murder suspects," said Hikind.

A replacement dumpster arrived Jan. 4, in Great Neck, Long Island, one day after police discovered the still-smoldering body of Menachem Stark in the previous one.

A suspect is seen exiting a white van at Broadway and Rutledge St. the night Menachem Stark disappeared.

I've read lots of comments on him, he was a slum lord. He did so many things so code enforcement couldn't go into his apartments and fine him.

I'm glad they caught the killers, but his lifestyle sealed his fate.

While it's a crime it's not one punishable by death.
I didn't say that in my comment. I never said he deserved to die.

Suspect in Brooklyn landlord’s murder tries to use ‘first time’ with girlfriend as an alibi
Kendel Felix, 27, first told detectives he was having a sexual encounter with his girlfriend when Menachem Stark was murdered early January. Felix changed his story after mentioning to detectives his dad is a pastor and being asked 'if his father taught him about being truthful.'
