Nathan Nehs first contacted the victim through a gaming platform three years ago when he was 17 and she was 11. September 16 of this year he left his Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, home to go pick her up at her home in Joplin, Missouri. The article says she threw her phone into a sewer to avoid being tracked but also says
Oconomowoc police received a citizen complaint for the missing girl at 9:46 p.m. Nov. 2.
According to the complaint:
The girl's electronic devices revealed a series of "concerning" messages in which she appeared to be held captive in Nehs' trunk. Multiple text messages from the girl to Nehs on Sept. 20 stated she demanded to be let out of the trunk.

On the way back to Oconomowoc, Nehs said he avoided tollways because he did not want to get caught. Nehs told the girl that if she wanted to go home, he would take her back.
The two arrived in Oconomowoc at around 11 p.m. Sept. 17. Nehs' parents became aware the girl was in their home between Sept. 20 and early October.
Nehs told his parents he was dating the girl. The girl told his parents she was 16 years old and lived locally.
The girl, who had been missing since mid-September, said Nathan Nehs sexually assaulted her 24 times and kept her in a closet for two weeks, according to a forensic review at the C.A.R.E Center in Waukesha, after being found.
Nehs' parents, who reside in the Oconomowoc home, located the girl and took her to police.
If convicted, Nehs faces up to 40 years in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.
A $50,000 cash bond was set for Nehs, who is being held at the Waukesha County Jail. Nehs waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and he has been bound over for trial. His next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29.
