A 15-year-old girl tried to kill herself after fatally stabbing her mother and sister in Limestone County early this morning, authorities said.

The victims have been identified by law enforcement as 44-year-old Rosa Aminta Maldonado and her 19-year-old daughter Rosa Lee Maldonado.

The 15-year-old is being treated at Huntsville Hospital for self-inflicted stab wounds to her head and neck, sheriff's spokesman Stephen Young said. Authorities have said the 15-year-old is expected to survive.

A deputy saw the girl attempting to kill herself with a knife as he arrived on the scene just after 1 a.m. at the mobile home in the 10000 block of West Schoolhouse Road.

"The investigation remains open, and new details may emerge," Young said.

It was there that another of Rosa Lee's teen sisters was strangled to death by her brother-in-law in January 2011.
Rosa Lee's sister Katherine Sanchez was 15-years-old when she disappeared, according to local media reports from the time.
Sanchez was strangled and buried in an apple orchard just south of Lake Ontario. Her brother-in-law Carlos Cardenas has since been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
