More than a dozen men accused of targeting children for sex crimes were arrested in the Las Vegas metro area this week as part of an undercover operation, authorities said Friday.

The 14 suspects engaged in inappropriate conversations with agents posing as juveniles on the internet and tried to set up sexual encounters with them, according to police.

The accused predators, whose ages ranged from 24 to 50, were taken into custody after showing up at a location where they allegedly planned to sexually abuse a minor, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

The agency urged parents to discuss the dangers of online chats with their children.

Each suspect was charged with luring a minor with a computer to engage in a sex act. One of them, 49-year-old Eric Huey, is a retired substitute teacher for the Clark County School District, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The others were identified as Pedrito Castillo, 28; Trent Courtney, 25; George Espinoza, 34; Deonta Griffin, 36; Kerry Krukenberg, 40; Andrew Lee, 40; Jordan Martinez, 24; Joal Robles, 29; Jonathan Santos, 28; Roderick Schmitt, 47, Carey Sherwood, 50; Rafael Villarreal, 35; and Rene Zuniga, 42.
