REGINA, Saskatchewan (AP) — A series of stabbings at an Indigenous community and at another town nearby in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan left 10 people dead and 15 wounded, Canadian police said Sunday as they searched for two suspects.

The stabbings took place in multiple locations on the James Smith Cree Nation and in the village of Weldon, northeast of Saskatoon, poBlackmore said police began receiving reports before 6 a.m. of stabbings on the First Nation community. More reports of attacks quickly followed and by midday police issued a warning that a vehicle reportedly carrying the two suspects had been spotted in Regina, about 335 kilometers (208 miles) south of the communities where the stabbings occurred police said"

This is heartbreaking.

The manhunt is still on.

"A manhunt was underway across three Canadian provinces and the toll of wounded rose to 18 Monday after a stabbing rampage that left 10 people dead in one of the bloodiest mass killings in Canadian history.

The attacks early Sunday took place in at least 13 locations in and around the James Smith Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, a sprawling province nearly the size of Texas. Authorities said there could be additional victims.

The suspects, identified as Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, were seen later Sunday driving a black Nissan Rogue in Regina, 200 miles south of where the attacks happened. Regina is about 100 miles north of the Montana border, and U.S. border officials had been notified.

"The two males are still at large, this despite ongoing, relentless efforts through the night by both the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and the Regina Police Service," Regina Chief Evan Bray said Monday. "We will not stop this investigation until we have those two safely in custody."

The relationship between the two suspects had not been determined, said Rhonda Blackmore, commanding officer of the Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Doreen Lees, 89, said she and her daughter were on their deck Sunday morning when they believe they saw one of the suspects. A car roared down their street and a man approached them and said he was hurt and needed help.

He wouldn’t show his face. He had a big jacket over his face. We asked his name, and he kind of mumbled his name twice and we still couldn’t get it,” she said. “He said his face was injured so bad he couldn’t show it.”

She offered to help but the man fled, she said.

Saskatoon police say they've been searching for Myles Sanderson since May, when he stopped meeting with his parole officer and was classified as "unlawfully at large." Sanderson had served almost five years in prison for assault, robbery, mischief and uttering threats, police told the CBC News in Canada. He disappeared shortly after being paroled.

Some of the stabbings took place on the James Smith Cree Nation, which has a population of about 1,000. The village of Weldon, 15 miles to the southwest, is home to about 200 people. Both are in Saskatchewan, which sits above Montana and North Dakota. The neighboring provinces of Alberta to the west and Manitoba to the east also have been put on alert"

More info about the victims here:

Lana Head, mother of 2 is one of the victims.

Another victim, Wes Peterson, 77, is described as kind, helpful widower.

It seems the monsters went after the Elders of their community.

Any readers here in the bordering states of Montana and North Dakota, please be careful.
My long time friend is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation) in North Dakota, and they are on alert. They are also armed to the teeth and stay in practice so I think she secretly hopes they are foolish enough to try them.
Harming Elders is a big taboo.

That is deeply sad about these men doing such horrible things on a reservation of all places. It can already be a rough and unsafe experience in those communities. This just isn't necessary. At least it is a good thing that one of these stabbers will not hurt anyone ever again.

Has one been apprehended?

Eta: yep and nope. Found it, thanks @Symmachus!!
You're right, he won't hurt anyone again.

"One of the two suspects connected to a series of stabbings in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan has been found dead, authorities said Monday. The search for the other suspect is ongoing, police said.

Authorities said that Damien Sanderson was found with fatal wounds, and that his injuries do not appear to be self-inflicted. RCMP's Rhonda Blackmore told reporters it's possible Sanderson may have been injured by the second suspect in the stabbing attack, Sanderson's brother Myles Sanderson."
