The boyfriend of a slain pregnant woman whose remains were found in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, appeared in court on Wednesday and was charged with murder.

Gregory Groom, 22, is accused of killing 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant and was last seen earlier this month. He was arraigned on Wednesday morning in Taunton District Court, where prosecutors described the confessions that he gave to police.

Investigators said they found her remains in a grave dug on the property where Groom lives with his grandparents in Rehoboth.

In court on Wednesday, the prosecution said that Groom was the first to contact police and report Monteiro missing on August 8. He reported that she visited his home and was looking for a place to stay, but that she left following an argument.

The prosecution said that Groom later admitted to police that he pushed Monteiro, who fell and hit her head, during an argument on August 6. The prosecution said he further admitted to knocking her phone out of her hand, which led to charges including domestic assault and battery.

Investigators said that Monteiro sent a message to her sister, saying, "'He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me. My phones at 4 percent if I die, it was Greg.'"

Ultimately, police told Groom they were preparing to search his property and he admitted to stabbing Monteiro multiple times with a kitchen knife during an altercation. The prosecution said that he told officers about digging a hole in the woods, where he hid the body.

Monteiro's body was found about 20 yards from a shed where the fight occurred and 5 feet underground, the prosecution told the court.
