Police arrested 22-year-old Joseph Liebers for allegedly beating and violently throwing around a 10-month-old boy, court records show.
Officers were called and responded to a 20-year-old woman for a report of several belated assaults.
She told officers she’d been staying with Liebers for about two weeks alongside her 10-month-old son. They had no issues with the man in the first week, but police said he would become aggressive toward the woman and her child.
The woman said Liebers began to hit the boy and progressively increased the intensity of the beatings. Within a matter of days, police said Liebers punched the infant with a closed fist in his stomach, threw him around and caused his head to “whip back and forth.”
According to an arrest affidavit, the mother would try to stop Liebers, but he would only kick her before hitting the infant even harder. Officers noted bruises on the woman’s shins and bruises on the infant’s head, arms, stomach, buttocks and legs.
She also feared leaving Liebers home and eventually escaped while he was asleep.
The current condition of the baby is unclear, but court records suggest he suffered serious injuries.
