29-year-old Ashley White began having serious issues in her relationship with 28-year-old Cody DeLisa in 2020, largely surrounding White's difficulty in finding work, according to a press release from the District Attorney of Adams and Broomfield Colorado.
At some point White became so frustrated with the relationship that she attempted to drown and burn DeLisa's cat, but failed, per the release.
White attended a job interview on Aug. 13, 2020 and rode home on a public bus while texting DeLisa about how it went, but he apparently "expressed skepticism about her chances of getting the job," which frustrated White, according to the release. White met a man on the bus who called himself "Scott" and asked "if she was in a relationship with a man and whether he raped her."
"White responded that he had, and Scott then said they must kill him," the release said.
White and Scott left the bus together and the pair shot a gun belonging to Scott before making their way to White's home and confronting DeLisa. Scott introduced himself to DeLisa as White's brother from Texas, and at some point after the pair arrived DeLisa was shot twice in the head.
White and Scott stole DeLisa's wallet and spent some more time together before Scott left, after which White did not see him again.
On Jan. 6, 2025, White was found guilty of second degree murder, conspiracy to commit second degree murder, and robbery.
Woman murdered boyfriend after he 'expressed skepticism' about her getting a job
A woman was charged with murder after she killed her boyfriend for expressing doubt about her chances of getting a job.
The identity of “Scott” remained a mystery for about three years, which is when a woman contacted the district attorney’s office saying she believed her boyfriend, Michael Stratton, was the other person responsible for DeLisa’s murder. At the time, Stratton was already in custody for allegedly killing another man, 39-year-old Michael Hunt, in Pueblo, Colorado.
Prosecutors say Stratton has been deemed incompetent to stand trial for Hunt’s murder and has not been charged with killing DeLisa.
