In June, a jury found Derek Brett Roberts, 44, guilty of 23 counts including eight counts of sexual trafficking of a child, four counts of first-degree rape, and 11 counts of first-degree sodomy.
On Friday, a Henry County Circuit Court judge sentenced Roberts to 23 life sentences in prison in connection with the investigation.
According to a press release from the Henry County Prosecutor's Office, the charges stem from a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation that ultimately found multiple files containing child pornography on devices owned by Roberts.
Some of those files included videos created by Roberts in his home involving children under the age of 9.
The prosecutor's office said each sexual trafficking of a child conviction is punishable by a term of life in prison without the possibility of parole until the defendant has served 25 years in prison. Because the victims in this case were under the age of 12, each of the rape and sodomy charges were also punishable by life imprisonment without the possibility of parole until the defendant has served 30 years of such sentence.
The judge, after considering the evidence, sentenced the defendant to 23 life sentences, and ordered the sentences to run consecutively. As a result, Roberts must serve 650 years before he will be eligible for parole.
