Sentenced: Portsmouth Woman Charged In Connection To Death Of 3MO Child

Kristen Michelle Vassar, 25, of Portsmouth, has been charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of child endangerment and two counts of drug possession, according to a news release from the Scioto County Sheriff's Office.

The news release said emergency personnel responded after dispatchers received a call regarding an unresponsive child.

Detectives said a 3-month-old was pronounced dead at the scene and evidence was collected during a search of the apartment.

Vassar is being held at the Scioto County Jail on a $180,000 bond.

According to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office, Kristen Vassar, 26, of Portsmouth, is indicted on the following charges: two counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, three counts of endangering children, aggravated possession of drugs, possession of cocaine, possession of a fentanyl-related compound and tampering with evidence.

Investigators say the mother had used crack and fentanyl and passed out in bed while her baby was with her.
