"Former Arizona Sen. Otoniel "Tony" Navarrete sat impassively in a Phoenix courtroom as a judge told him he faced a minimum of 49 years in prison if a jury finds him guilty of sexual conduct with two children.

The trial for the case is set for Sept. 19 after numerous delays. Friday's settlement conference gave the ex-lawmaker a chance to learn his "punishment exposure" and what prosecutors believed they could prove at trial.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Bruce Cohen told him the maximum punishment if he's convicted would be "well over 100 years." Early release would not be available to Navarrete, who could still take a plea deal if one is offered."

It unfolded when a complaint was made, and LE arranged a phone call:

"In the recorded call, monitored by police, Navarrete, 35, acknowledged touching the victim's penis and performing oral sex on the youth multiple times over several years, according to documents released by Maricopa County Superior Court.""

Here's the portion that really made me angry and @AngryLittleMexican , @Satarah and a few others will understand... The use of the word "mijo".
Everything that is wrong about this asshole is illustrated by his use of that word. It really makes me angry.
It's a continuation of the abuse.
"Mijo" means " my darling little boy".
It's OK if it's your son or nephew and/or things are on the up and up, but in this context it's inappropriate and manipulative, ugly and sexual.


"Of course, I regret any bad actions that I did, absolutely wishing everything could be different. I'm sorry, mijo," Navarrete was quoted as saying in the phone call. He was arrested at his west Phoenix home four hours after the call."

Navarette told the youth he regretted his actions, knew they were wrong and repeatedly told the youth that the young man was not at fault for any of the interactions."

"The documents note another alleged incident where Navarette reached under the shorts and touched the upper thigh of another teenager, who swatted his hand away.""


I hope you go to prison for that 100 years. I hope the people that voted for you cast their votes more carefully. Voting for someone because you share an ethnicity or party or single issue is stupid.

However the MY part is what sickens me the most. This monster used them like property when they were children and calling them such a loving/possessive endearment that you would use for your son or close family member is like he is STILL trying to hold possession or claim over them. She is also Navarrete’s mother and the person who posted $50,000 cash to secure his release from jail pending trial."

" Phoenix PD investigators believe Navarrete’s mother, Yolanda Vargas, had knowledge of the allegations of yearslong sexual abuse before the authorities were notified. When questioned by a detective about whether she knew of those abuse claims, “Vargas confirmed as much in her recorded interview,” the Maricopa County prosecutor noted in the filing."


She's been arrested for refusing to testify.
