Sidney Police arrested Seth Mahoney (21) Sidney on Saturday morning and charged him with two counts of murder in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child.
On Saturday, June 17, 2023, at approximately 2:24 a.m. Emergency Medical Services was summoned in regards to a child not breathing. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, a three-year-old boy was discovered recently deceased. Emergency treatment was administered and the child was transported to Wilson Health Hospital where the child was officially pronounced deceased. The child’s body was transferred to Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Sidney detectives responded to investigate the incident and to process the residence for evidence. The investigation along with the autopsy revealed facts that the child’s death was a result of multiple injuries both internal and external. As a result Mahoney was charged with two counts of murder as a result of the child’s death.
His bond is set at $150,000 Tuesday with conditions including no contact with the alleged victim’s family.
 
Seth Mahoney was sentenced to 15 years to life for the murder of Avian Freeman, according to Shelby County court records.

In June 2023 police went to a home on North Main Avenue in Sidney on reports of a boy not breathing.

Freeman was pronounced dead at the hospital. Detectives said he suffered several injuries, both internal and external.
Avian’s mother previously sent a letter to News Center 7 about the death of her son.

“My family has lost a dearest precious child. His wings were ready, but we were not,” the letter reads.

Family friends said Freeman “loved everyone” and “would always give everyone hugs.”
